Stella did not look that good tarted up - she's better dressed in her own style. All in all Phil's birthday was quite humiliating for Stella, but she shouldn't have broken the toy car, the cow.
Why was Martin wearing a hooded top to conceal his identity if he was just going to come out and speak to Phil like that anyway?
Shirley is not as 'honest' as she keeps claiming. She masqueraded as Good Samaritan in Dorset, then pretended to be called Sue in Walford. Wish she would get on with it - but then again, when she does reveal the shock horror scandal regarding Kevin, it doesn't mean that the kids will necessarily like her. It could have the effect of Carly and Deano disowning both their parents!
That Lydia practically took Bradley off Stacey - she flirted with him at work and at the Christmas party, although she knew he had a girlfriend. Bradley should not have resonded, of course, but I can see why Stacey has a problem with Lydia. I assumed that Stacey was shagging Max only in order to embaress Bradley with the revelation at a later date, but it seems she genuinely likes Max the Butt Ugly Martian. No accounting for taste.

Well Stacey is often drunk so maybe that explains her attraction to Max. Maryin could have been keeping his ears warm. But a nice pair of bright pink muffs would have attracted less attention. Shirley isn't, I agree there. Patsy

Not bad tonight I thought.
Nice too see Max being a good dad for once. Abi is so sweet.
Cannot wait till tommorrow, with Ben/Martin/Phil. Tonight that was the high light and I thought it was awesome

Better late than never with Max. I don't think Stacey will give up that easily though so she must be desperate.
Martin's really lost it but who can blame him? He looked more evil than Ben on the roof. Like you, jessi, I can't wait for the next one.

Ben is going to be a right basket case: as if he wasn't well on the way in the first place. To be moved from Walford to South Africa, then his mum and step dad were killed, then he iss re-united with Ian (shudder) then he discovers his dad is Phil (heeelp!) - as if all this wasn't bad enough, but now he's been kidnapped by Mad Martin.
Anyone got the number of a good child psychologist?

Tues 23 Jan.
Quite dramatic all round - didn't expect Martin to do 'an Arthur' and smash the place up! How come the Police didn't talk to anyone about what happened? They would never just go off and leave it when they'd had a report of a kidnapped child being dangled over a railway bridge. Then again, this is Walford where the Police are useless and you can literally get away with murder.
Talking of getting away with it - why is everyone waiting on that pointless little twat Deano hand and foot? He should have been charged with some sort of serious driving offence, seeing the injuries he caused to be inflicted on Chelsea and Abi. His own main injury is that he no longer has the ability to taste garlic - hardly a major disfigurement.
I don't know anyone is supposed to have any sympathy with Shirley and her efforts to make amends if she is going to take the shopping money and go down the pub - why make her do that? If the writers are trying to prove that she really is ok deep down - keep her out of the boozer and away from Max 'irresistible to fick scrubbers' Branning.
Dawn's pregnancy should be starting to show by now, but no she's as skinny as a rake; Peggy has a very liberal Sick Leave policy - Dawn has had nearly every shift off because she didn't feel well, most people would be sacked by now.
It seems that Stella will be held responsible for Ben running into the arms of a deperado - did anyone see the looks Phil was giving her after the kidnap? It wasn't her fault the nasty little brat ran off like that.

I really enjoyed Martin's scenes tonight. I felt really sorry for him. Poor James. All these years and he finally gets something decent to do before he's off. Was I the only one who wanted Martin to do something to Ben?
I did feel sorry for Stella after those looks Phil gave her but then changed my mind after she manipulated Ben into apologising.
Yawn and Rob. Who cares???
Shirley was pretty boring but I did love it when Carly threw the drinks over her.

Yes, patsy, I'll admit I was hoping that Martin might harm Ben a bit - not too much, but a little. I'd never even made the connection between Ben Mitchell and Martin Fowler - Phil pointed it out: of course Ian is Ben's brother and Martin's cousin, so they are related.
Ben's acting wasn't all that bad when he was struggling with Martin on the railway bridge - maybe that's what you have to do to get him to put in a good performance - strangle it out of him.

The Sonia/Martin scenes went on a bit - going over old ground. Did feel sorry for Sonia being nicked in front of the lynch mob like a criminal, when she was going to turn herself in anyway. Shame Martin didn't have the balls to turn himself in too - threatening to chuck little boys in front of tube trains is not strictly-speaking legal, is it?
Charlie ( the licensed black cab driver) was boozing in the Vic - then he went round to offer to drive Carly to Croydon! Dangerous driving offences are obviously no big deal in Walford, then.
Can't imagine how Shirley's going to pay the rent on a flat in the East End - it's probably in the region of £200-£300 a week. Cleaning the Queen Vic bogs 2 hours a day cash in hand won't exactly make her rich.
I'm guessing that it was Joe who turned up at the end - and that Dot DIDN'T hit him with the frying pan.

LOL! Martin always was a coward.
Prostitution?
Plate and a frying pan would probably finish him off. I can't wait for tomorrow. But why did he sneak in when the lights were clearly on? I know the back door is boarded up but the windows aren't.

The sausage show.
Sausages being mentioned everywhere. Really weird episode. Maybe to symbolise Joe's emasculation at the hands of Pauline and how he regained his sausage (ie his manliness) after belting her with the sausage-hardening utensil (ie the frying pan). FFS.

LOL! It said in the Mirror about all the mentions of sausage.
I got really frustrated by tonight's ep. Just as we were getting somewhere with Joe it cut to something else and we still didn't find out what Kevin's secret was! Sod the sausage stuff - we wanted Joe and the secret!
Pauline really had it coming. I could imagine her saying all that stuff to Joe. But why no mention of her whacking him over the head with a plate?

I get the impression that Joe was looking for a replica of his first late wife, so he bullied Pauline into marrying him. Then he realised she was nothing like the first one - and the rot set in. They both resented one another - but she was the stronger of the two and he flipped and smacked her one. Now he's dead and gone - no more sausages for poor Joe

The sausage theme was a worrying factor in Joe's final episode - but apart from that everything was fairly good. Only other cause for concern was the slightly patcy beginning to the episode.
So Joe did it then? With the frying pan? An unusual instrument to kill poor Pauline with, but she did hit Arthur with one once, I think, so ironic all the same. I could easily imagine her saying what Joe said, but I can't really imagine him hitting her over the head with the frying pan. I felt there should have been a flashback to show that bit, but the rest was fine.
As for the end, it was really good. Joe got a good ending I thought, and there was a good build up overall. Be interesting to see if Dot and Jim are believed by the police (I mean it is convenient that the man they allege to be the murderer fell out of the window the night their granddaughter was arrested), and how Martin reacts when he finds out that it was Joe - who he previously suspected until Sonia confessed.
Okay, so Pat knows Kevin's secret - and we still don't. With all this build up it better be a good one, or else I will be really disappointed.
I don't think there was much else worth commenting on. Overall I'd say 9/10.

If Joe is an ex lag, and therefore has experience of such things - how come if he used the frying pan as the 'murder weapon' why didn't he dispose of the evidence, and not leave it lying around the kitchen?

I agree about the flashback, Eithne. That would have been good. Thank goodness they didn't drag it out the way Emmerdale is. It would have got very boring very quickly. I can see him hitting her with hit. She treated him after they were married like something she scraped off her shoe and he just snapped in the heat of the moment. I'm surprised no one else did, even Arfur! Pauline wasn't the saint Wendy Richard tries to paint her as. She was always a bitch with a nasty tongue and a violent streak. I think Dot and Jim are believed seeing as Pauline gets cremated at last next week. Rebecca heard some of what went on.
Joe obviously didn't think of it with her being alive when he left. If he'd killed her then he probably would have although a missing frying pan would have aroused suspicion so he could have just washed it up.

How disappointing was that secret? All these weeks of building it up to be something really terrible and it's what we guessed all along. Shame on EE!
Martin and Sonia were good. Excellent performances. But why has Ian suddenly taken over Pauline's 'I Hate Sonia Jackson' mantel? Has he been possessed?
Quick verdict over Pauline's death. Do they work weekends?
Rob and Yawn. Nuff said.

Maybe becuse Sonia's disappearance with Rebecca caused Martin to snatch Ben and threaten to kill him.
