Have they ever even shown this oft-mentioned person? Or was that the one who showed up for a date with Steve with child in tow? I thought maybe that had been Beth. Is it okay in England to make fun of large ladies? Why is simply mentioning this person supposed to be funny? Help wanted. I understood the bit with the lamp from Tracy's room... now that was a bit of fun, but I'm actually starting to wince every time Steve or Lloyd or anybody else mentions this Fat Brenda!  Oh, and how many posts until I'm no longer a 'Potman'    |

I don't believe we've ever seen Fat Brenda on screen. You're right - Beth was an ex of Steve's, and is now a regular character.
It's not exactly okay to make fun of large ladies, or anybody else for that matter - political correctness dictates that we should tiptoe around everybody; but in the real world of course people refer to each other in this way, and worse. As we've never seen her she could be as skinny as a beanpole - and her nickname is ironic, like Curly Watts - he had very lanky straight hair.
I suppose it's humorous to have a character that never appears - because then the viewer can make up their own jokes. On EastEnders they often refer to an unseen character called Fat Elvis - a petty crook who has occasional sex with gruesome granny Mo Harris; years back in the 1980s classic show Minder Arthur Daley referred to his wife as 'Er Indoors. We were supposed to get the impression that he was terrified of her, so he kept out of her way all the time.

So does this mean that Fat Brenda will turn up one day for real? I know the article is 2 years old, but hope she will become a real Corrie character one day. Someone funny which Corrie is crying out for.
