Bet Gilroy doesn`t suffer fools gladly either and she would`ve told Miz Hell to sling her hook

when she came back she was too old to play the role she was trying to do. Also she had no history with the younger viewers so they didn't know or warm to her ( Bet that is)

I didn't like Bet by the time she left. I liked her on the old days and she had a great double act with Alec. After he left her acting got worse and the character became ridiculous.

Absolutely - a perfect example of someone becoming a victim of their own ego.
Her (brief) re-appearance was frankly just plain embarrassing.

Well she does think she's adored by every Corrie fan in the world.
Looking back at her earlier appearances and in other things pre-Corrie, she never really could act. She was average at best. I still think the double act with Alec was great but Roy Barraclough carried her really.

I totally agree BK and Pat. Watching some of her earlier episodes her acting wasnt very good but the character was well written. In later episodes she became embarrassing.

You've probably hit on why Bet was so popular, Jezziekins. People looked beyond Goodyear's mediocre at best acting and watched a well-rounded, flawed character.

Yes like so many others. If the writing is good enough often it can save a less than brilliant performance!

standards are higher nowadays . All the older acting is not up to scratch generally compared to what people expect nowadays

But there's more bad acting around these days across the board which makes you wonder how they got into drama school. Well paying helps, like KF. But why do casting directors hire rotten actors over someone with talent?

cause of the look or the need, eg want a young guy etc

That's it exactly, Stix. Can't hire ordinary looking actor. Must be attractive. This is sadly how shallow TV has become and a lot of its viewers. The number of comments saying so-and-so is hot rather than discussing their acting ability have increased.

Talking of Tom - as Liam's widow shouldn't Maria inherit his share in Lads Rags, or whatever it was called, and be in partnership with Tom and Carla? Imagine the business meetings! And while we're on the subject - if their company was mail order - how come we never saw them going to the Kabin with piles of parcels? It still says Post Office outside, but no evidence within of any Post Office activity.
