If they had sent them off to Blackpool Bill would have to have left as well as they would never split them up and Bill wants to stay. The only way to write her out was for Vera to die, and they did her death in the most moving way possible. The press were bound to hype it up as she is a Corrie legend.

Ah but as I posted several times before, they always said when one goes, they both will.
It wasn't the press hyping it up. It was Granada. The press only reported what they put in the public domain.

Yeah trust Granada to build them up as the Golden Couple and then when one of them dies they have a new partner for them within days of the funeral. They make me sick.
Gary Mallet and the twins are in Blackpool too aren`t they. Don`t know where Brad is though. Crumbs he`s 11 or close to it. How old is Tommy? 15? 16?

Tommy was born in 92 so will be 16 this year.
But the situation changed due to Liz's health and she had to quit. Bill clearly feels he is well enough to carry on. Death for Vera was probabaly the only option.

Liz was diagnosed a few years ago and should have quit long before now if she was as bad as the papers reported when it came out and needing oxygen so often per hour. As for Bill, how do you know he won't go when his contract runs out?

As for Bill, how do you know he won't go when his contract runs out? Patsy I think Bill wants to continue as long as he can, same as Liz. They clearly love their jobs so much they dont want to leave. It must have been impossible for Liz to continue for her to quit. Also so many leave these days we could say that about any one of them not renewing their contract. Reet for 1!

Maybe Reet will be next out of the old school cast to leave. Not many of them left now - Reet, Ken, Emily, Betty, Jack, Audrey. About it really unless you count Deirdre and Gail but they could stay for 30+ years!

He did. He was just a coward.
Was that when she played the landlady of a pub? She talked about it in her autobiography. This was after her first appearance in Corrie but she did lots of other things during the first few years in Corrie as her appearances were few and far between.
Where did you see that ep?

Yes that's the one. It was on a channel called Red. I watched the news to find out if there was any more on Heath Ledger as it went off BBC2 at 1am then while trying to find the channel on the EPG it had been left on, saw CC listed and there she was in the witness box. I'm really annoyed as I'm a fan of Patrick Troughton and that was the repeat so wasn't able to tape it as I'd missed part 1 and half of part 2. Grrr!

She said in her book that she played the part of a policewoman in Crown Court for a while but it wasnt a speaking part. She then got the part of a pub landlady. Apparently that is where Corrie got the idea of the perm from. This character in Crown Court was apparently very Vera!
Im not sure how many eps she did in 1974 - it might well have been just the 2 initial ones she did - but I know she was back in Corrie in 1976 as Fred Gee's girlfriend for a while and then semi regular from October 86 at Baldwins.

From the Mirror: Jack and Vera Duckworth reunited in pub EXCLUSIVE By Claire Donnelly 24/01/2008 By 'eck, Chuck! Here's something you thought you'd never see - Jack and Vera Duckworth back together again. Just days after dying on-screen, Corrie star Liz Dawn was cheered by delighted fans as she turned up to meet her TV family for a few beers and a sing-song. Liz, 69, whose emotional portrayal of Vera's death attracted 12.5 million viewers last Friday, joined screen hubby Bill Tarmey, 67, and wayward son Terry (Nigel Pivaro) at the Broadoak pub in Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester. She was cheered as she joined Bill on stage to sing Me and My Shadow - and had the crowd in stitches as she shouted: "Not bad for someone who has been dead for five days, eh kid?" Bill joked: "I'm very upset. You may have seen it on telly. My wife's just died. I cried, our Terry cried - even the pigeons cried." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay call me cynical but for someone who reckoned to be using oxygen on the set and her health was so bad, she got up and sang? Where was the oxygen then? If she struggled with a few scenes whenever needed, she'd never have been able to do that. Patsy
