We thought it was delightful - very original, well cast, lovely primary colours, and above all - fun!
However, I do agree with pearly that it could quickly go the way of Ugly Betty unless they're careful.
We lost interest in UB halfway through the second series, which was a shame, as we'd loved it at the start - it definitely got into a rut, and we ended up finding Betty herself bloody irritating!
Anyhoo - as regards PD - so far, so very good.

I really enjoyed this.
It is an interesting concept and totally different. ( I have never watched UB so can't comment on that )
I thought the two lead charcters were terrific, and how he gets around his no contact rule very funny ( as regards stroking the dog )
The only sad thing is that it is up against Casualty. I think it would have got a lot more viewers if it hadn't. I wonder if a different night in that time slot would have been a better idea.?
I have just read on Teletext that episode 2 will not be shown. It appears ITV bought 8 episodes of a 9 part series!! . So the next episode we see is episode 3. How stupid is that.

Its opening episode didn't seem to dented by Casualty, as it got 5.7 million or 25% of viewers.

Yes its true that episode 2 wont be shown. It is stupid. They are taking a huge risk surely not showing the 2nd episode of a brand new series. How are people supposed to get into it when they are skipping an episode.
I have some info on episode 2 that I will post for you all to read so at least that will help fill in the gaps.

Here is some info for episode 2; from www.tv.com/www.epguides.comNed sees his power as both a gift and a curse, and it's illustrated with flashbacks to Ned's childhood which include dissecting frogs in school. In the present, Ned, Emerson and Chuck visit the morgue to inspect the body of a victim of a car accident. It's a 45 year-old man who specialized in automobile safety. The police are offering a reward to anyone who can find the killer, and Emerson wants answers in order to get the reward. ABC Press Release for episode 2 NED INVESTIGATES A MYSTERIOUS HIT-AND-RUN DEATH - WAS IT MURDER? - WHILE CHUCK HAS SOME QUESTIONS OF HER OWN, ON ABC'S "PUSHING DAISIES" "Dummy" - When an automotive expert is found dead (ironically enough) after a strange hit-and-run accident, Ned suspects there's more to the story, especially when he finds out the deceased worked for a company about to launch an experimental car. Meanwhile, Chuck wants some answers about how Ned brought her back to life, on "Pushing Daisies," WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. "Pushing Daisies" stars Lee as Ned, Anna Friel as Chuck, Chi McBride as Emerson Cod, Ellen Greene as Vivian, with Swoosie Kurtz as Lily and Kristin Chenoweth as Olive Snook. Jim Dale is the narrator. Guest starring in "Dummy" are Field Cate as young Ned, Patrick Fabian as Mark Chase, Jonathan Mangum as Bernard Slaybaugh and Riki Lindhome as Jeanine. "Dummy" was written by Peter Ocko and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.

From Yahoo uk.tv.yahoo.com/blog/article/8421/ : Pushing Daisies Gets Red Card Tue Apr 15 10:40AM by TV Editor Viewers are up in arms after news that ITV has decided to skip straight to episode three of Pushing Daisies so that the end of the series doesn't clash with Euro 2008. The first episode of the US drama, which stars British actress Anna Friel, debuted last weekend with 5.7 million viewers. Now angry fans of the show are bombarding online forums with complaints after it was revealed that ITV are not showing the second episode. There are nine episodes in the first series of the fantasy drama and ITV have only eight weeks in the schedule before the start of the football tournament. An ITV spokesperson said: "Episode two was the only show we could drop without spoiling the storyline." We think this decision shows a total disregard for viewers. Couldn't they have scheduled a double-bill one week or screened the final episode earlier or later in the evening to avoid a clash with the football? Why promote a series so heavily and then treat it like this? What do you think of the decision? Did you watch the first episode and will this make you less likely to continue watching the series? Let us know what you think...

Why not just have had a double episode last week showing the first two episodes in one go and really getting viewers into it. Would that idea have been way too taxing for the bigwigs at ITV1 or something? It really isn't that difficult and usually they only show ancient films after 10 on a Saturday night anyway, so a new drama series would have made a welcome change I'd say.
Not that difficult is it!!!

It defies all logic but then this is ITV we're talking about.

It seems completely ridiculous. There are several slots im sure they could have slotted the "extra" episode of this into, not necessarily on a Saturday night. Im sure viewers would have rather it in an unusual slot than not show it at all!

Loved the second episode, now we've had the stage set for us.
Far more surreal than I expected, and all the more enjoyable for it.
Anna Friel looks gorgeous, and I love her glamorous '50s dresses.
Great fun.
