Any fans out there? I would like to know though, why it is still being called Taggart when all the original cast has gone (with the exception of Blythe Duff) and it has now got a completely new cast?

Blythe Duff isn't one of the original cast at all. She didn't join until 1989
In fact the last member of the original cast in the show was Robert Robertson who played Dr. Stephens. He was there from the first story in 1983 & stayed until 2000 when he died (although he did miss one story during that time when he was ill).
I suppose the show is still called "Taggart" because it's become a "brand" now. TV makers like to stick with tried & tested titles ~ they kept Blake's 7 even after Blake had left the series.

What I should have said was that Blthe Duff is NOW the original as there are none left. Ther eason they kept the title is for that reason, it is a brand name and fans identify with the title

Yes - I suppose TV bosses would worry that it would lose viewers if they changed the name.

Yes - I suppose TV bosses would worry that it would lose viewers if they changed the name. Quite, and also I guess that is what the show is also all about - although that was my initial grievance regarding the title - the new cast was going to be living in the old cast and the late Mark McManus' shadow.

TAGGART
ITV1 Network Friday 16 September 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cause And Effect DCI Matt Burke (Alex Norton) heads the investigation into the brutal murder of a beautiful young woman, Margot Phelps (Laura Harvey). Her husband Todd (Tom R Chadbon) is quick to admit that they argued the previous night, and also that money is tight. Will his compliance prevent the finger of blame pointing straight to him?
Todd claims he spent the night on his boat and that rich businessman Archie Rae (Ian McElhinney) can vouch for him. But Archie is hardly the best alibi for Todd, as for some reason he wants him dead…
Meanwhile, Burke is surprised to discover that Todd’s accountant is a woman he has long held a torch for – Lucy Anderson (Carole Cassidy), the ex-wife of former policeman Jack Anderson (Ken Drury). Jack has recently been released from prison but insists he was fitted up and denies ever having heard of Archie or Todd. Why is he making a video of his life before his move to New Zealand?
Later Burke and Lucy share a romantic meal, and Lucy tells him that she hasn’t seen Jack since he returned to Glasgow. As the pair dine, Jack is savagely beaten to death. Will Burke let love cloud his judgment?
Burke is on the war path following Jack’s death, and he confronts Archie after DI Robbie Ross (John Michie) and DC Stuart Fraser’s (Colin McCredie) investigations show that Jack had put Archie away for a stretch… so why did Jack say he’d never heard of Archie?
Elsewhere, Det Sgt Jackie Reid (Blythe Duff) suspects Trevor Bovey (Gavin Paul) - who runs a boat maintenance business with his sister Sam (Clare Waugh) - of having an affair with Margot…
When Trevor is discovered murdered, the pressure mounts for the team to bag a result. Archie and two of his heavies are brought in for questioning, and Burke wants to know what the lengthy phone call with Margot the night of her death was about. While Gemma (Lesley Harcourt) finds that the gun used to kill Trevor could be Todd’s, and has mysteriously gone missing.
Was Jack the ominous link between Archie and Todd and what was the true subject of his video? As grudges fly all round, will the Taggart team clinch the case before a fourth victim is found?
This episode of Taggart was written by Daniel Boyle and directed by Pat Harkins. It is an SMG TV Production for ITV1.
