Did you see Barbara Knox at the end of that Corrie stuff? I nearly collapsed in shock! More clips of Mike than Reet though. I wasn't surprised it was number 1 but had hoped The Muppets would be to piss them off! But, as it was a Granada show anything BUT Corrie was highly unlikely. The choices though were still b/s. Should have been one show from each year. Mine didn't do too bad though I really struggled with the crap they gave us to vote for: 30 - The Prisoner 23 - Upstairs, Downstairs 20 - Tiswas 19 - The Sweeney 17 - The Avengers 15 - Minder 12 - Cracker 11 - Cold Feet 5 - Emmerdale 1 - Corrie But where were the comedies in that list? Why only Rising Damp? No groundbreaking Man About The House or the spin-off George & Mildred (Robin's Nest wasn't as successful so doesn't count). No Shelley. No Nearest and Dearest. No The Army Game. No George and the Dragon. No zillion things. And what about dramas? Flame Trees of Thika? Out? Fox? Widows? Or further back No Hiding Place, Adventures of Robin Hood etc. Not even Crossroads (the REAL one) which in the 70s was MORE popular than Corrie. The list was b/s because most of those were NOT ITV's greatest. Most of what they left off was. Patsy

They didn't include a lot of better stuff. Did you know only 500,000 people voted?

And did you notice...whenever there was a serious programme (World in Action,This Week,The World at war) it was ALWAYS followed by a light hearted upbeat programme..I think it was fixed....How the hell can saturday night takeaway be second all they did was steal bits from The Generation Game,Candid camera,Noels house party & Beadles about..ridiculous..I like Ant & dec they are very good CHILDRENS presenters, but they don't have the class of Morecambe & Wise or the two Ronnies
My top 20 would have been.....
1. Corrie.(1960-?) 2. Upstairs Downstairs.(1971-1975) 3. The Avengers.(1960-1969) 4. Rising damp.(1974-1978) 5. Emmerdale.(1972-?) 6. Crossroads (1964-1988) 7. Rock Follies.(1976-1977) 8. The Naked Civil servant.(1975) 9. Crown Court (1972-1978) 10.Nearest and dearest.(1968-1972) 11.Bless this House.(1970-1976) 12.Celebrity Squares.(1974-1978) 13.Timeslip.(1970-1971) 14.UFO(1969-1970) 15.An Audience with Victoria Wood.(1987) 16.An Audience with Kenneth Williams.(1982) 17.Stingray.(1965-1966) 18.The New Avengers.(1976-1977) 19.The Champions.(1967-1969) 20.Wood & Walters.(1981)

The Naked Civil Servant was good. I saw a lot of things on Channel 4 on the 80s including that. UFO I agree with. It's very underrated in favour of Space:1999.

What do you all make of the "Avenue of Stars" idea? The UK version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In a few years it will be forgotten about I think somehow.
Also apparently Ant & Dec are among the first to be remembered for their contribution to UK entertainment. Talk about a joke.

It is a joke. The whole thing. They're obsessed with Ant & Dec. Didn't they get a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NTA's or something a few years ago? One of the reviewers for that Hollywood Walk of Fame rip-off mentioned the BBC's Hall of Fame. I'd forgotten all about that. Apparently too Paul O'Grady is grumbling he never got a star, saying by the time they get round to him his will be in Steatham or somewhere. The fact Corrie got a star when it's not a person made it a bigger farce than it already was.

It seems to be just an excuse for ITV to persuade themselves how good they are, and how much quality (trash) they show.
For one week the schedules should have been cleared of soaps and instead been filled with some classic shows from the past 50 years.

Definitely. Instead of clone programming they do these days. They wouldn't have wanted ratings to rocket and people asking why they can't make stuff like that any more. LOL!
