I really miss this programme. I still can't understand why they took it off. They have never had anything worth watching to replace it.

Wow, I thoguht I was alone.. when Central pulled it I wrote to the duty officer asking about it and he said it was down to the advertising revenue... it wasn 't pulling any in. I did consider contacting Ch5 as they show things like Sunset Beach.. I really miss Shortland Street Daffy

Why are they "sad acts"? I used to watch this on ITV and it was treated appallingly. They used to take it off air all the time, move it around the schedule, butcher the episodes to death and then axed it with no warning.

It was taken off in the UK because it was comissioned by the regions rather than the ITV Network, so was in regional slots and only shown as and when each region wanted it, some regions axed it years before others, some never bothered showing it at all. When ITV reduced the amount of regional slots the regions who still showed it were forced to drop it, without much warning, they didnt even let us know or apologise at the end of the last episode screened, an appallling way to treat fans who had watched for 10 years.
The ITV network refused to take it on as a network program saying it was a regional program not a network one, yet they wouldnt reinstate the regional slots.

I bet there are hardly any character left that we remember now.
As to way it was treated, 'High Road' was treated just as badly and in a very similar fashion.

Sootycat, I think Nick is still in it, if you remember who he is! Other than that I bet I wouldn't know any of the current cast either. It was a shame they took it off air. I think where I live we were one of the last regions where Shortland street was taken off.

Jenny had cancer didn't she, and she was a member of the hospital board or something?
Who was Chris Warner again, the name sounds familar.

This was him. He was in the first episode, then left and came back again, and ended up running the Hospital. ( Just before it was axed here) Have you noticed the actor who played Dr Frank Malone is now in Home and Away.?

I loved Shortland Street particularly the early episodes. Do you think Living TV could show it? I emailed them via their website but never got a reply..
I am amazed that we only ever had the one prog from New Zealand.. though at least ONE is better than NONE AT ALL which is what we get from that other English speaking big country eg Canada!!
regards SS
