Name them here!
Mine would have to be...
- Jimmy killing Tony Dixon - The death and discovery of Trevor Jordache. - The parade explosion - Marcus tracking Ollie and Eleanor down before falling to his death - Susannah's death
Remind me of some more!

Most of those were after I'd stopped watching! Hmm, let me see.
Sheila's rape and aftermath. Sue Johnston put in a terrific performance. The nurses held hostage. The Grants discovering their grandchild hadn't been aborted as Debbie's dad told them. Annabelle's affair and Paul confronting her. Anything with Harry Cross. The murder of Sue Sullivan and confession of Barry Grant Trevor Jordache being killed.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

I liked all of it in the early years! It was such a revolution - real houses! Wow! The characters went to work and these scenarios were featured! Wow again! And it was controversial. Before Brookie, soaps lived in the 1950s. The modern world did sometimes intrude (Ernest Bishop's shooting, the hooligans smashing up Ken's house or Eddie Yeats' 1982 CB radio romance with Marion Willis in Corrie, for instance), but, in the main, the world of the 70s/early 80s was kept at a distance. In 1982, Brookie changed all that. One of my fave scenes was Sheila Grant doing the ironing and watching Corrie! Brookie was the first soap which had characters who watched OTHER soaps!

I agree, Alf. Brookie in its early days really broke the mould. It was brilliant and compulsive viewing. I really enjoyed seeing them on Living many years ago. I used to tape it. LOL! I started doing it if it was something good, then went on to all of them but stopped at the end of 1990 because it went boring and Sheila left. Brookie were the first to go 5 nights a week (not including Crossroads who started that way). In about 87 they had an ep on each night for Christmas week. The omnibus was actually slightly different to the weekday ones for some reason.

I loved early Brookie, I stopped watching well before the end.
My abiding memory was the Christmas one, with Sinbad having that Turkey on a lead and selling it to everyone. ;D

I was talking to Pam about Brookie back in October when we were waiting to sail on Oriana. She used to watch but gave up in the early 90s. She didn't even know when it ended. It's a shame really it became a shadow of its former self due to trying to compete.

it started off being groundbreaking and original and ended up trying to keep up with the Jones' with disasters etc...
I think I stopped watching it when Mandy Jordache left

I would love to have seen that 'body under the patio' storyline. With the lead up to it and the aftermath too

it was gripping..the storyline went on for about 3 to 4 years..but because Brookie was only twice a week then you didn't get it rammed down your throat and sick of it..unlike nowadays with 5 or 6 episodes a week
one of the most shocking storylines was the murder of Sue Sullivan when she was pushed off the scaffolding..but none of the story had been leaked and what we didn't know was that she would be holding her baby at the time and he died as well...I was stunned

Oh yes. I tuned back in when the body was discovered but lost interest again after the trial.
I remember that one with Sue Sullivan then the revelation she'd been pregnant with Terry's baby. Terry completely lost it, and with good reason, when Barry confessed. They do like their whodunits to be wearing jeans. They did the same with Sheila's rape.

I do. I never really liked Sue but agree it was shocking. Murdering an innocent mother AND baby! Barry Grant had never stooped so low. I had a French visitor at the time. During the 80s we'd bored each other senseless about our soaps. LOL! She enjoyed that too and wanted me to tell her who did it. Watching at the time I always had the feeling she fell while backing away and 'whoever' had been up there was trying to stop her.
Do you also remember all the complaints over the rape for being too shocking? We only saw her dragged behind a bush. Funny how things have become more shocking and barely anyone bats an eyelid.

Did Barry Grant actually push Sue over the scaffolding? Why? And did he get sent to jail?

They said he did but I'm still unsure. He held his hand out as far as I remember when she was perilously close to the edge. I don't think he did go to jail. He confessed to Terry but I don't remember the outcome.

Ta for that Pats. I can remember as clear as day even now the look of shock on George Jacksons face when he was sent to jail because of that a-hole Tommy McArdle.

Despite Tommy McArdle being an a-hole as you say, I liked him. Though when he had Barry and Terry hospitalised I thought he was a git.
Poor George Jackson. Hero like that.
