Okay. Well I have one word - bullshit! Dragonfire ("Ambient temperature" and the walking zombies), Tomb of the Cybermen/Ark In Space (the obvious) and even a touch of the B7 ep, Children of Auron (disease minus banana yogurt). The Cassandra and Face of Bo was pointless. All of Cassandra was destroyed. RTD just wanted an excuse to almost say arse. Then there's that body swapping Cassandra did. Purlease! One plot device overused like he always does. And wouldn't having 2 Cassandra's (albeit in another body) have created the Blinovitch Limitation Effect? Crap CGI. Music too loud still and too much of it. And the effing 'Next Time' bit tagged before the credits - ARGH!!!!! Will they learn nothing? ? 2/10 Patsy

Im no big DW fan or expert on the subject, but I'll give it a look now and then. Tonight's episode was on - pretty innocuous, nothing special, instantly forgettable. Well it was for me anyhow. Unfortunately my son age 8 was in his room a short while ago too terrified to turn the light out because DW freaked him out so much. We have hugged and reassured him and he has been allowed to put on a Shrek video to cheer himself up.
He watched all of the last series with Christopher Ecclestone - no fear, no incident. God knows why he's been so scared by this one. During the 70s I watched DW (Jon Pertwee) and never hid behind the couch or had nightmares about Daleks.
Did I miss something tonight? Like the scary bit? Maybe my son is just a wuss!!

Maybe David Tennant terrifies him with that accent! LOL!
I was the same, Pearly. I used to sit in my mum's chair or on the floor in front of the telly. No cushions, door cracks or backs of sofas for me. Though I cried my eyes out when Pertwee turned into Baker, not understanding it at the age of 4. Gave me a phobia about bloody great, big, black hairy spiders for life though! LOL!

The BBC's Fear Factor panal made up of children of all ages, rated it 4 out of 5 in their warning before hand. 5 being scariest. Although I don't see how. Something known only to children.

Well Geoff ('im indoors) and I have just watched it on tape (We watched The passion:Films, faith and fury on Channel 4
What can I say.....it was ok...I still feel it would benefit from a story being stretched over 3 or 4 30 min episodes rather than being rushed into one 45 minute slot...and the 'Next time' bit really really annoys me.
just one point..surely the Doc can't leave that chap to die on 21st century Earth.??..wouldn't there be an autopsy and they would discover he isn't human?!?!
BUT I do think that David Tennent will make a better Doctor than Christopher Eccleston,he has an air of eccentricity that that Christopher didn't have
We will see how it pans out..it was certainly better than the Christmas episode

There's always far too many characters in these eps for the length. I was talking to my dad earlier and we were working out how many were on Fang Rock and Robots of Death. Bugger all for twice the length yet the story never got silly (apart from the cabbage in Fang Rock), needed gimmicks, so-called comedy and had no ruddy great plot holes. That is what marks out the huge difference between old and new Who. This series may be good and I desperately want it to be. But I have a feeling all the while arrogant fanboy RTD is in charge, it won't be because he's doing things his way and thinks fans agree like getting rid of the Time Lords without even realising the Tardis is connected to the Eye of Harmony on the planet (regardless of whether you go by that crap McGann TV Movie or not) so no planet = no power!

Well the make-up was good. Better than the Cheetah People in Survival. Pity they didn't have much to do really.

I really enjoyed it - David Tennant was excellent and much better than the previous Doctor. However im only a fan of NEW Doctor Who but I enjoyed it.

That's because you haven't seen it all before or better stories. Even Terrence Dicks who did some right crap (Robot anyone?) could do better than RTD.
Speaking of Terrance Dicks, of course. Silly of me. The brain in jar was nicked from Brain of Morbius (pinching that from the Keys of Marinus) which he wrote and was so rewritten he had his name taken off it!

{Sighs} Please you two, don't start this again!!! We've had it all last year, not again this year! Should we just set up a Jez v. Patsy thread here where you two can fight away on this particular issue? Anyway, back to the episode... I didn't think it was great. It was down a lot on last years opening episode. While I liked the CatNun's and the return of Cassandra, I do agree that it was very very rushed! There was too much storyline for 45 mintues. And the storyline wasn't great at all. I just didn't feel it was at all original (and for reference I don't mean ancient Doctor Who) or interesting. The body swapping was also overdone quite a bit. And it seemed wrong to see Rose being so close to the new Doctor so quickly. David Tennant is growing on me, though it will take time for him to grow into the role (for me at least).

Did we eithne? I dont remember. All I remember is arguing with Patsy about Corrie and Kate Ford!
In answer to Patsy's question - well ive never really thought about watching the original really so I honestly dont know.

I don't either. Have to read back through the archives. LOL!
The ratings were down. 8.6 didn't they say? Mail reports the fans are 'Dematerialising'. Will be interesting what happens. I don't know if RTD deliberately or subconsciously pinches from the past. This is one reason fans shouldn't write for it. Nothing can be entirely original anyway these days. But when you have 26 years worth of something you love it's inevitable parts will creep in.
I still have The Beginning box to watch which came while I was away. 7 eps of The Daleks (or even 3/4 featuring those awful cavemen) is more gripping than the Next Generation series. Better written, not relyng on bad CGI, music doesn't drown everything out, no massive plot holes, characters properly developed so you get sad when they die (apart from the cavemen when you cheer).

I dont think we did argue over Doctor Who - I never held as strong views on it as I do for Corrie. LOL!
