Boring start but it did improve. I enjoyed it UNTIL the end. All that last of the Time Lords bullshit again. He's got a time machine. Nothing to stop him going back in time and visiting Gallifrey. Not forgetting all this love crap. BELT UP!!!! It's NOT what the Doctor does. Then here's the Macra. As pointless as the Autons in Rose. Just an old monster brought back for effect but did bog all. There wasn't even a conclusion. They're still down there.
6/10

I thought it was brilliant from start to finish. It was some of Russell's best writing for the show since Season 1

My husband quite liked it as did my Uncle (who were both watching). I haven't seen last week's yet so didn't watch tonight. Got it recorded and will catch up some day.

Oh I agree about since series 1 though a lot of his writing then was bad and the better stories were written by others. There was a bit of padding with the Doctor going through all the cars. But generally The Macra Terror, even though today it only exists complete on audio with a few episode clips remaining, was better. More suspenseful even just listening to it.

From what I've been reading there's a lot of slating.
One letter in a TV mag made me laugh. This writer claimed to be a 'huge Doctor Who fan' but said they worried Martha wouldn't be able to replace Rose. A huge fan would know companions come and go so Rose is just another in a very long line and the series doesn't start and end with her.

I would only know about past companions because you and other people have told me.

That's what I was thinking. More comments, this time from people watching since the 70s, who hated Sat's.

The Doctor seemed upset about Rose though which is why people could be thinking that Martha wouldnt replace her as the Doctor was so close to her.

RTD's bullshit that's why. He was closer to his granddaughter and didn't get that upset when he dumped her on Earth.

It was way, way better than the inital episodes - and was probably one of the best RTD episodes I have seen. I really felt empathy for the characters (particularly Ardal O' Hanlon - a great actor - and his wife). Everything was rather well explained, and there was great acting. I wasn't too sure about the song, and why would the female news reporter still be broadcasting if the upper world had been destroyed?
Apart from that it was a really good episode. I would give it 8 1/2 out of 10.
And perhaps they can bring the Macra back at some point, in a full storyline - to satisfy the original viewers.

I'd love to see The Macra Terror but there's just no chance it will be found. The audio isn't the same but better than nothing.

I've been so slow at watching this series 3. Until today I had only watched the Lazaras Experiment (however you spell it) and Smith and Jones number one. However today I thought it was time I watched at least one more so I skipped the Shakespeare one (which I am dreading) and went straight to this one, "Gridlock", as people I know liked it.
I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. All the characters were likable, the kittens were adorable, the plot flowed nicely and kept you at worst curious and at best almost on the edge of your seat. The last few minutes I started to get bored as it all got solved however at least the conclusion was wrapped up sensibably and left no serious questions unanswered.
I think it is probably the best one Davies has written himself and one of the best ones of the 28 episodes I've seen of this new series
All in all I did enjoy it.
