From Digital SpyNeighbours Low RatingsNetwork Ten drama executive Dan Bennett has admitted that low ratings for Neighbours in Australia have become a cause for concern. An increase in sensationalised storylines have failed to capture the attention of Oz fans, with the show pulling in fewer than 700,000 viewers each night in recent weeks. Bennett has confessed that executives are keen for the show to go back to its roots, focusing on families rather than bombs and shootings. "Certainly, the figures we're getting now aren't a great basis for our night-time schedule,'' Bennett told The Sunday Telegraph. "Storylines are going to be refocused on what has quintessentially been at the heart of Neighbours: relationships and family dynamics. "There can be the occasional bomb blast - no soap is complete without it - but at the end of the day, Neighbours began as a show about friends and families living on a street and all the problems people face every day. And that's what we'll be heading back to." Executive producer Ric Pellizzeri played down talk of a crisis, insisting: "Coronation Street's been going 40 years, and we're looking at Neighbours as a show that will run for 40 years and even longer.'' Alan Fletcher, who plays Karl Kennedy, recently revealed that the soap was undergoing a "major transformation".

As I said on the other thread, it's not that low when the top rated show can get 2 million.

In the UK it could be better considering it used to be on a par with EE and Corrie and now gets millions less than them.

It wasn't really. They just added both showings together.

They don't do it these days. EE only got 30 million for the Christmas Day ep that year because they added the omnibus to it. It was another stupid thing Brookside started and inaccurate because often a lot of the viewers watching one watched the other.

Maybe the numbers will improve dramatically when Stingray and Boyd leave. They couldn`t get any worse anyway lol What really bugged me most about Boyd is that he was in Stephs face constantly when Steph and Toadie got closer. Yet Boyd was the one sh@gging that Glen person. Bloody hyprocrite. It was a bad decision on the producers fault to have such a massive weed out of characters so soon. I hate it that Lyn has left - I really liked her. I like Janelle too...she`s a great comedy actress.

I never liked Lyn. Her nervy acting gets on my wick. Can't say I care for many of the characters.
Was it my imagination yesterday or did whatshisface say Effing Paul Robinson?

Nope. Carmella overheard Will/Sebastian (no wonder he changed his name!) paying off some woman who pretended to be his mum. Janelle and Steiger went on a date. Harold got twinges in his back. Karl is into going green in a big way. Er.....

I rewound the episode 2 times and he definately said Paul Fricking Robinson. Apparantly the BBC had complaints about it. ;D

Thanks Patsy - sounds like I missed a great episode then lol
Fricking isnt that bad really. I was more shocked when Jack in Home and Away said the word pissed a couple of episodes ago. And even more shocked that Five didnt cut it.

I hope Rosie sees sense and chooses Frazer over Paul. Paul is such a bastard and although Frazer can be a moron at times he's cute.

I really do enjoy watching Neighbours - even when its not so good. To use a food analogy, I liken Corrie and Emmerdale as my main course and Neighbours as the sugary week dessert afterwards. Not as filling and satisfying as the main course, but still enjoyable nevertheless. And I would miss it if I didn`t have it ;D

And still using the food theme....I liken Boyd, Max and Stingray as the raisins that somehow end up in dessert that I always pick out as I don`t like them ;D ;D ;D
