From Digital Spy
BBC One has commissioned a new Sydney-based soap from Southern Star Entertainment, the production company behind Love My Way and The Secret Life of Us.
The channel has ordered 130 half-hour episodes of Out of the Blue, on which production will commence early next year.
"This is an ambitious project that we think will break new ground, at the same time as providing daytime audiences with a compelling and intriguing watch," said BBC fiction controller Jane Tranter.
Southern Star chief executive Hugh Mars said that the new soap will be "full of life, contemporary and very broad in its appeal".

Add it to the list of axed soaps like Brookie, Crossroads Mark 1, 2 and 3, Eldorado etc I guess.

Yeah but at least Crossroads 1 lasted almost 24 years and Brookie was 21.

A big factor will be when it starts showing. If Neighbours finishes on the Friday on BBC1 and starts on the Monday (maybe in a different time slot?) on Five and the new soap starts showing on BBC1 in Neighbours slot on that same Monday - then it could split the Neighbours audience, with some giving up on Neighbours and watching this new drama (mainly as they are used to being on BBC1 at either 1.40 or 5.35) while others will continue with Neighbours on Five.
But if there is a sizeable gap between Neighbour's BBC1 finish and this new soap's start - then there will be no way it'll do well whatsoever.
I hope all that makes sense.
On the subject of axed soaps, anyone remember Breakers or Headland - both axed Oz soaps.

I dont think this new soap is going to be in the Neighbours teatime slot - by the sound of it its going to be earlier in daytime, possibly the lunchtime slot, and TWL is going in the teatime slot.

So do I and I loved it. When we lived in Florida, we used to visit friends in Georgia, and they used to live near a place called Richmond Hill. It was close to an army base ;D

I have to be honest and say I am quite looking forward to this. I'm a bit of a sucker for Aussie programmes.

If you watched Aussie TV you'd soon go off them. LOL! Mind you saying that, there were a couple of little gems among the dross that weren't soaps.

So am I sooty, Some of the dramas are far superior ro the American ones that are shown here. Case in point 'A Harp in the South' and its sequal 'Poor Mans Orange'. If you have never seen them, I hope you get the chance to. I have them both on DVD if you ever want to borrow them *cough*or if you want a copy*cough* ;D

I saw both of them CorrieGirl. They were on Channel 4 years ago.
One of my favourites was 'The Sullivans' although I don't know if you would class it as a soap.
I think it was S&Ds that got me hooked on Aussie programmes, closely followed by 'The Young Doctors' and PCBH. ( Which remains my all time favourite ) It was about this time I realised there were not an awful lot of actors/actresses in Australia, as the same ones seemed to crop up in every prog I watched. ;D ;D

Wasn't The Sullivans based on A Family A War? I used to watch The Sullivans. It was good.

I loved the Sullivans, and loved Young Doctors too. But my all time fave is definately Sons and Daughters. It`s as brilliant watching it today as it was in the 80`s. My mothers fave Aus drama was a Country Practice. She really loved All Saints too and was really ticked off when it was cancelled. She is another fan of PCBH too. She loved Family at War too. I can barely remember it though. I vaugley remember the start or end of it was on a beach and it had a flag in a sand castle
