I cheered out loud when Emily went into the butchers for some lamb chops Friday. It was a shame that poor Emily was pushed into the background just so Claire could do some more whinging about Sally

It's not right to treat their stalwarts like that. I think the newer writers are also at fault here. They are given their orders t include certain storylines, character quota etc but then have the older ones do as little as possible or create ridiculous scenarios for them. Sadly I believe the days of older characters being loved and respected as those of the past (with the exception of Blanche again) has gone.

I agree Stratford...how I long for the days when there used to be scenes of Ena,Albert,Minnie,Emily,Rita and Mavis etc.. just talking about nothing in particular yet stealing the show...its all youth lead now and getting more like a Manchester Hollyoaks by the minute

The DVDs show how good it was and can be again if they tried. I still enjoy watching it but not as much as I did. How many new brooms have vowed to return it to its roots then didn't deliver?

I love the old DVD's too - I have the 60s, 70s and 80s. Was watching some 80s this afternoon and loved them! Reet was being bitchy to Elsie in the Kabin but it wasnt the same time of nasty behaviour we get in todays episodes.

My heroine! ;D That's why it was so good then. It was catty remarks like light-hearted banter and often funny.
Good question, stratford. Didn't Steve Frost say that? He did with Emmerdale and made it unmissable. Don't remember Tony Wood saying much except he doesn't watch soaps.

Yep and in the pub later they were friendly again. Had some great stuff with Reet and Mave too.

How many new brooms have vowed to return it to its roots then didn't deliver? The answer sadly is none of them. They want to put their own stamp on Corrie and to hell with what anyone thinks.
