They never cared, Nick. Too up themselves to listen to complaints. Maybe she'll seduce Norris over a glass of sherry, Wend. Patsy

Its not exactly an affair in the way people think tho is it. Apparently Ken is very taken with this lady as they share the same interests and she is an actress so he helps her with stuff relating to that. So its not really about sex - its a connection that grows between them.
Also apparently she asks him if Peter's mother is alive when he talks about Peter and of course he says no she isnt so she just assumes Ken is a widower.

Yeah we know all that but there's still snogging or attempted snogging involved.

This might clarify things from itv.com:
Stephanie Beacham interview
Thurs 15 Jan
Actress Stephanie Beacham will soon be appearing on our screens as the delightful Martha and what a change it is from her previous role in cult soap Dynasty. We'll let Stephanie tell you more about swapping sunny Malibu for life on a freezing barge in Manchester.
Tell us about Martha – how does she differ from your other roles? What is fantastic for me about Martha is she is the first nice and down-to-earth woman I have played in years. Martha’s costume is so comfortable, warm ugg boots and jumpers and jeans – a world away from Dynasty! I don’t mind one bit.
What is it about Martha that appeals to Ken? Ken feels more comfortable in Martha’s company in some ways than he does at home. She sees something in him that no one else does and that is what he finds so appealing. She sees in him what he would like people to see in him.
Does she know he is married? Martha doesn’t know that Ken is married. He doesn’t lie to her, it's an omission. He tells Martha about Peter and his troubles and he says that Peter’s mother is dead. Martha assumes that this means Ken is a widow and Ken doesn’t take the opportunity to disillusion her of that fact. This is the real clue to the fact that something is probably going to develop between them, if he wasn’t thinking about her in that way he would tell her about Deirdre and bring Deirdre to meet her, or never see her again but he doesn’t.
What is it like working with William Roache? William Roache is one of the nicest human beings I have ever met. He is a really nice bloke, delightful and helpful and we get on very well which is great because most of our scenes are just with the two of us.
Why do you think Soaps like Coronation Street and Dynasty are so popular? Soap operas are so appealing because they are friends you don’t have to phone up – you can just tune in.
Tell us about life away from work I live in Malibu and have lived there for the past 24 years. I had to leave my new doggies. It’s also a bit of a change from sunny climate to here – this is very cold. I was laughing to myself today thinking: ‘This is what you signed up for, honey!’ I am wearing layers of thermals that make me look ten times my normal size. We either film on the exterior of the barge or the interior set, which is still freezing. My daughters, my eight-year-old grandson Jude and the dogs are the most important things to me. I love my life in Malibu, I do my washing up with a view of the ocean and mountains but I keep a base here for work and to see my friends and family.

Yeah we know all that but there's still snogging or attempted snogging involved. Patsy Buts its no where near as bad as you were saying. Its not like Ken is going to have an affair for the sake of it - its as if he has a real connection with this woman.

Well apart from Wendy Crozier how many other times has he actually cheated on Deirdre?
She cheated with both Mike and Dev.

He could`ve cheated with Sally Waterman too, but was too much of a gentleman. I never thought I`d ever see myself ever say this but...... go on Ken.... if you feel like some slap and tickle with a gorgeous woman like Martha - I won`t mind. You`ve gone through the wars lately what with Tracy, Peter and Blanche yapping on constantly. Have some fun for a change - you need some happiness. I`ve surprised myself I really have. Being married 20 years this year (on Corries Birthday), I wouldn`t think of cheating, but it`s nice to watch someone who is usually a good guy find a bit of happiness.

Oh yes Sally Waterman but he only kissed her I think (not that thats an excuse). He did cheat on Val with Jackie Marsh in the 1960s.
Him and Deirdre had divorced I think when he slept with Denise.

But they were together until Anne's cancer leading to her being written out. When Deirdre returned after looking after Blanche she found out then went to Morocco.

I`m in agreement Pats. Maybe he`ll think work will take away the pain, but there will be constant reminders everywhere. Losing a loved one so unexpectedly like Sara, Bill needs to take time off. It grieves me to see him in Corrie episodes so happy with no indication of what is to come. And seeing pics of Ann breaking down at the funeral shows what a close family unit the long time Corrie stars have with each other. Its sad all the way round.

It really is and he'll need his friends but they won't be there all the time and won't be much help really when this overwhelms him, but I expect they'll keep that private. He went back too soon.
