Coronation Street star Sue Nicholls is reportedly pushing to evict an MRSA-suffering pensioner from a London-based block of flats she jointly owns.
The 65-year-old actress, who has played Weatherfield's Audrey Roberts for nearly 30 years, apparently instructed her lawyers to commence legal proceedings against tenant Kelvin Allen when he contracted the potentially fatal MRSA superbug.
Earlier this year, Allen, 69, broke his hip but fell into a two-month coma when he contracted MRSA.
According to the Daily Mail, Nicholls' lawyers had a court summons served on Allen in hospital soon after he regained consciousness.
Allen, who is a retired West End theatre manager, has resided in Nicholls' £300,000 flat for 26 years and expects to find himself homeless when he is discharged from hospital.
The one-bedroom flat is jointly owned by Nicholls and two other family members, Judith and Beverly. Under the lease, the Nicholls' could serve only one month's notice on Allen.
In a court statement, Judith said: "My decision to serve notice was made due to my recent ill health so that other family members may occupy the premises.
"It has always been the intention of the claimants to return the building to a family home once settlement of other family matters had been completed."
Allen's power of attorney, theatre producer Anthony Field, said: "This has been extremely distressing for him. He still cannot leave his bed and is concerned about what will happen when he leaves hospital and if he will have anywhere to live."
Allen's only relative, his 96-year-old mother, lives in a care home in Norfolk.
Earlier this year, a Coronation Street storyline saw evil entrepreneur Tony Gordon (Gray O'Brien) evict elderly pensioner Jed Stone (Kenneth Cope) from his home in order to pursue a redevelopment project.
