Whittaker: 'I love playing a scheming cow'

Sally Whittaker has revealed that she loves playing Sally Webster on Coronation Street as the character is always getting everyone's "backs up".
The 45-year-old, who first took on the role 22 years ago, said she relishes storylines in which her alter ego's bitchiness prevails.
Whittaker told The People: "Sally can be such a scheming cow but I love her when she's like that. When I get my scripts to learn I pray that there are going to be storylines where Sally is getting all of the others's backs up."
She will be in the midst of the soaps's Christmas week episodes after telling widow Maria Connor (Samia Smith) that her husband cheated on her with factory boss Carla Gordon (Alison King).
Whittaker said: "When I read the script where I broke the news to Maria I knew instantly it was going to be one of those memorable Coronation Street nights. As an actress it is the sort of storyline you want to be involved with. You know you are taking part in a plotline that will leave millions of people debating the rights and wrongs."
The actress added that she has no plans to leave the soap, saying that she wants to play Sally "forever".
"I am so lucky, I cannot imagine a better character to play. There are so many more people's lives for her to meddle in yet," she said.
