Me too, even when there's been someone in it I wanted to see. The scripts are so bad and it never happens in that in real life.

British Soap Awards nominations released
06/05/2009
The British Soap Awards is back and set to be bigger than ever as it looks back over another year of tears, trials, tribulations and tantrums from the nation’s biggest TV shows.
Entries from the five biggest soaps are eligible – Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks – and stars from all five will don their finest on the night for what promises to be one of the award calendar’s most glamorous occasions.
Hosted by Phillip Schofield with awards being presented by some of the entertainment worlds most famous faces, there’s everything to play for in the soap world’s ‘Oscars’.
The British Soap Awards honour outstanding achievement in the country’s most popular television genre. There are 17 awards and categories are voted for either by a panel of expert judges or by the public and include Sexiest Male and Female, Best Actor and Actress, Best Comedy Performance, Villain of the Year, Spectacular Scene of the Year, Best On-Screen Partnership and the ultimate accolade, Best British Soap which was last year won by EastEnders.
On ITV2 Michael Underwood and Angelica Bell will report on all the glamour from the red carpet and the ceremony. After the awards they will be at the Soap Awards party, celebrating with the winners, commiserating with those that missed out on glory, and getting all the behind the scenes gossip from the stars of our favourite shows.

The British Soap Awards 2009: winners
The British Soap Awards took place on Saturday 9th May, as Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks stars donned their glad-rags for one of the award calendar’s most glamorous occasions.
Hosted by Phillip Schofield with awards being presented by some of the entertainment worlds most famous faces, there was everything to play for in the soap world’s ‘Oscars’.
Coronation Street won six awards including sexiest female for Michelle Keegan and Best exit for Rob James-Collier whilst Eastenders pipped them at the post with seven, including holding on to their title of Best British Soap.
Whilst it was a great year for BBC’s afternoon drama Doctors who picked up three awards, it wasn’t such a happy occasion for Emmerdale who only received one award and teen favourite Hollyoaks, who came away empty handed.
So who won what?
In no particular order, the winners were:
Sexiest Male: Scott Malsen who plays bad boy Jack Branning in Eastenders.
Sexiest Female: Michelle Keegan who plays Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street
Villain of the Year: Scottish Gray O’Brien who plays murderer Tony Gordon in Coronation Street
Best Comedy Performance: Nina Wadia who plays Zainab Masood in Eastenders
Spectacular Scene: Emmerdale - Victoria Falls Through The Ice
Best Dramatic Performance: Anita Carey who plays Vivien March in Doctors
Best Dramatic Performance from a young actor or actress: Maisie Smith who plays Tiffany Dean in Eastenders
Best Exit: Rob James-Collier who played heartthrob Liam Connor in Coronation Street
Lifetime Achievement Award: Barbara Windsor who plays Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders
Best On-screen Partnership: Nitin Ganatra and Nina Wadia who play Masood Ahmed & Zainab Masood in Eastenders
Best Storyline: Doctors – Vivien’s rape
Best Newcomer: Craig Gazey who plays Graeme Proctor in Coronation Street
Best Single Episode: Doctors – A Kind of Hush
Special Achievement Award: Peter Whalley, writer of Coronation Street
Best Actor: Robert Kazinsky who played Sean Slater in Eastenders
Best Actress: Katherine Kelly who plays Becky Granger in Coronation Street
Best Soap: Eastenders
You can watch The British Soap Awards on Wednesday night at 8pm on STV.

I wouldn't agree with all of those.
Sexiest male/female/whoever - don't care, it doesn't matter, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Well done to little Maisie smith, she's a super little actress.
Nina Wadia is not that great an actress - especially in the 'comedy' category. I know she was very good in Goodness Gracious Me, but I don't see Zainab as a particularly funny character. Likewise her and Masood as the best on-screen partnership doesn't wash with me either.
Shona Mcgarty should have got best newcomer, not Craig Gazey.
Best actor Rob Kazinsky?? Why was he even nominated? He couldn't act his way out of a paper bag - and I bet the big-headed git will now be trying to worm his way back into EE, now he's had some recognition. Jake Wood is a thousand times a better actor.

Agree there. Jake Wood is brilliant. He does the whole range of emotions and it gets you going.
Maisie Smith is an excellent find. Well done to her. She's the best child star there is in soap! I'm delighted she won. How the hell did Isabel Hodkins get a nomination? She was crap when she arrived and is still crap.
Nitin Ganatra should have got sexiest male. He's good at the comedy and does work well with Nina Wadia. I think she's good when given the right material.

Wow I got 5 predictions right. Yay me ;D Am glad Maisie won...she is a terrific actress for her age, and so is Simon from Corrie. I hope he wins next year. I don`t watch the Doctors, but it`s nice they got an award. The sexiest male and best actor awards? no no no no. The lifetime achievement award should have gone to Betty Driver..... especially as she`s in her 40th year at Corrie. Barbara Windsor is so undeserving IMO.

I think its a bit farcical really to have an awards show where there areo nly 5 programmest hat can be nominated.
Be like having a TV Detective awards show where the only prizes can go to Taggart,Midsomer Murders,Lewis,Frost or Jonathon Creek

I am so happy that Gray, Craig and especially Rob got awards! I wanted Ali to win Best Actress tho - but im happy someone from Corrie got it.
Also glad Hollyoaks got nothing - they need to pull their socks up this last 6 months at least has been boring. Emmerdale didnt do very well either but at least they got something.
Rob wasnt there either to collect the award - my friend and I were talking to Samia outside the studios yesterday and we asked her if Rob was there and she said he wasnt and that she and Ali collected the award on his behalf!

Not a very exciting show - the only thing that really sticks in my mind is Adam Woodyatt's face fuzz, shudder!! Please get rid - he still looks like a little kid to me, and when Ian Beale had 'the moustache' nearly 20 years ago he was the laughing stock then, and will be again. Very boring, uninspired acceptance speeches - Craig Gazey was OK, but generally no effort was made. Didn't notice Charlie Clements in the EE seat, unless he was hiding There seem to be some very hunky looking men on Doctors, maybe I'll give it a look sometime soon ;D
|
|
|
Post by sallywebster on May 13, 2009 23:05:12 GMT
Unfortunately Pearly the hunky ones have left Doctors - apart from Matthew Chambers that is!
Craig Gazey was so funny - his award was well deserved. Ali should have got Best Actress - I like Katherine Kelly and she plays Becky well but Ali was outstanding in every performance IMO.
Also happy about Gray getting Villan. He killed out Liam so of course he is Villan of the Year - boo hiss etc!
Peter Whalley - well deserved award and liked what he said about Corrie being the most watched show on tv - if the awards were based on viewing figures the right soap would have won Best Soap!

Peter Whalley had to say that. You'd never catch him slagging off his paymasters until he leaves, like John Stevenson. But how many actually do watch and how many is out of habit? We know Paul is fed up yet he still watches.

If im fed up of it I still watch because I love Corrie. If im fed up of others shows like Emmerdale for example, as you know, I stop watching.
Although they get their fair share of boring episodes Corrie has been really good overall this year.

Emmerdale is crap. When I stopped watching I couldn't stand most of the characters and the storylines were shite. Ditto with Corrie. If I pack in EE that'll be really bugger all I watch in a year!

Is that when Charity returns?
TBH I think it's never been the same since having 6 eps. It's just too many to watch. I was also pissed off choosing between EE and it on a Tuesday and in the end opted for EE. When I had my router probs 3 years ago I only saw one ep in a month due to being on the old computer with an ethernet cable and thought it was crap.
