Once again i have complained to ITV about the continuing decline of Corrie...here is a copy of what i sent...
Dear ITV
I don't know if this is the correct place to send this,if it isn't I would appreciate it if you could pass it on to the appropriate department.
I am writing about the downward spiralling quality of Coronation Street, over the last 10 years or so the quality of what was once the ITV flagship programme and which stood head and shoulders above the other soaps has sadly been declining.
It saddens me as I have been a huge fan of the series from the late 1960's..my earliest memory of Corrie is the lake district coach crash.
I,and many people I have spoken to online, feel that there are too many episodes with far too many characters that have nothing to do...and because of the amount of episodes and the large size of the cast, hastily concocted, silly storylines are written just so that character will have something to do.
There also seems to be a trend of some characters getting storyline after storyline and others being woefully neglected..for example the on going David Platt storyline just drags on and on and goes round and round in circles,he does something bad,Gail tells him off so then he does something worse she tells him off again so he does something worse...and so it goes on to the point where it is just unrealistic beyond words,if it was real life no-one would give him the time of day even his mother...I Know it isn't real life..BUT..in the early years Corrie was famous for its realistic portrayal of working class northern people and sadly now it isn't.
Also there are storylines that happen for a few weeks and then are totally forgotten..Michelle's real son Alex..Hayleys son Christian...Seans son with Violet...Janice robbing all of her factory colleagues of their lottery winnings....Kevin being married to Alison and his son dying...even Eileen and Julies dad Colin dying seems to have been hastily forgotten.....and many many more.
Corrie should be restored to no more than 3 episodes a week and have a quarter of the unnecessary cast culled,it is being ruined and it feels like ITV are killing the goose that once used to lay golden eggs.
I am trying to instigate a 'NO CORRIE DAY' where I can get as many people as I can via the Internet not to watch Corrie on a specific date as a protest to the way our beloved Corrie is being slowly ruined by having the life squeezed out of it.
It saddens me to say it..but if it doesn't pick up I,Like a lot of my friends, will give up on it and stop watching it
Thankyou
I would like to get this NO CORRIE DAY sorted but I don't know how to go about it on a bigger scale..can anyone help?

Excellent Nick. It sums everything up very neatly.
I would be interested if you get a reply......whether they answer you properly....or you get the bog standard 'auto reply'

Fingers crossed....i have these mad moments where I have to get things off my chest
I have just had another one at our local residents meeting.....the council are looking into introducing parking restrictions round where I live which means we will all have to buy parking permits for £160 per year...I chipped in I said 'why is it that the only parking solution the council can come up with is us paying and them making money?'
Well our local councillor kicked off...it got quite jheated with everyone lol..its like a local version of TV's Question Time

Of course you won`t hear anything Nick.....your letter made too much sense for ITV to comprehend. I bet they don`t even know who the characters are that you`ve commented on.

my reply has arrived I have copied and pasted... Thank you for your e-mail regarding Coronation Street. I was sorry to read you are concerned about the content of Coronation Street and that you feel that the high standard of acting, writing & production for which the programme is rightly and justly famed, have recently fallen. We of course aim to entertain the whole of our audience all the time; however, we do appreciate that there are going to be some occasions when certain subjects or topics are going to make some of our audience less than happy. This is never intentional but dramas must touch their audience’s emotions to keep them engaged with the characters’ predicaments, however I do hope that you will find future story lines more to your taste. I have, of course, passed your comments and concerns on to the production team and, in particular, the Scriptwriters and Storyliners. Once again, many thanks for your e-mail and interest in Coronation Street, and I do hope that your concerns do not spoil your future enjoyment of our production and that it entertains you for many more years. Yours with Best Wishes, David Nugent Coronation Street

On its own it means nothing...but if enough people complain and viewing figures start to drop (which they have) then they have to sit up and notice

Those bits stood out for me. The first part is sheer arrogance and the usual bog standard denial anything's wrong while the end is what he always says so everything's meaningless and they'll carry on producing crap. Patsy
