Just wanted to say that the look on Jack's face when Vera told him that she'd got the bed all set up at home for a repeat of his birthday present for his 21st was a moment of deep joy. I just love this stuff. The other moment that made you look askance was when Ken Barlow said something about wanting a trip to Amsterdam for his 70th birthday, and Deirdre said - with a straight face - that that was "some way off". Really? I presume she meant in the past, rather than the future.

He obviously desperately wants to buy some 'coffee' and tour the red light district. Patsy

Neither of them has worn well. .

I dont think Bill looks over 70 though. He looks younger than my dad who is 65!
I really enjoyed last nights episode - some classic Jack and Vera scenes!

(I've only been watching since about 1985) I do recall Rita talking Ken out of it when he was about to swallow a family-size bottle of paracetamol one New Year's Eve, but no horizontal tangos.

Billy not every relationship end`s in a horizontal tango , (shakeing my head at you for suggesting it ). I,ve been watching Coronation Street more or less from the start and in 1972 Rita Bate`s as she was then made it obvious to her son,s schoolteacher that she fancied him that teacher was Ken Barlow, who on the advice of his headmaster at Bessie Street School cooled the romance down between him and Rita.

I'd always thought it was Bet Lynch who had talked Ken out of ending it all - did he notch her up as well?

I can remember seeing a Corrie clip a while back of Reet chatting up Mike Baldwin when Mike first came into it Val. I think it was from 1976.

I can remember years ago, it was suggested that Jack and Vera *had* to get married because Terry was on the way. Then another plot suggested that Jack wasn`t the father of Terry. So if that`s the case, how old were Jack and Vera when they got married? And how old is Terry? I thought he was a year older than me (I`m 42). I always assumed Jack and Vee were in their early 20`s when Terry was born. But if Jack is 70, then that would make Terry nearly 50.

It was a false alarm that she was pregant but too late as they were already married! They got married in 1957 and Terry was born in 1964 so would be 42 now.
Jack must have been 21 and Vera about 19/20 when they wed.

I,m not sure how reliable my info is as I got it from an old corrie book, but according to it CorrieGirl Jack married Vera on the 19th of august 1957 and Terry wasn`t born until 4th of june 1964, (Vera had 5 miscarridge`s then she had Terry). so Terry will be 42 year,s old I think.

Maybe that's why Vera was always so tolerant of Terry, despite his being a toerag, she would make excuses for him all the time. Maybe because this was the only child she was able to have - she lavished all her love and forgiveness on him, much more so than she did Jack who was always punished for his wicked ways.
