I have to admit that I thought the reaction from Ian to Kathy's death (on Monday night's episode in case you are wondering!) was brilliant. I also liked the way that most of the episode dealt with him making a video to show Kathy - and Jane being nervous about being seen on video by Kathy.
Then Jane overcame her obstacle, only to have to break the news to Ian that his mother had died.
Ian's grief was very real - and although the character isn't liked much by anyone the actor did do a brilliant job. I suppose Ian has had to cope with grief a lot over the years though living in EE! Not a great way to celebrate 21 years though was it - killing off an original cast member?
Tuesday night with the two cousins was also good. I loved the way Ian made a little dig towards Martin about Jamie's death as well. Very well written.
From the spoilers I don't think that Kathy is going to return to be buried in Walford, with her husband, which I think is a shame. Although Ian might have liked Gavin, would he really have let his mother be buried beside him rather than beside his father?
Anyway, quite looking forward to seeing the new Ben arriving.

Yes, I agree it was well done. Ian is one of the least sympathetic characters ever on this show, and I didn't feel a lot for him, but he managed to convey sentiments that made me feel for poor motherless Ben who we have yet to meet.

I do wished they had given the character a better send off though - maybe bring Gillian Talyforth back for a while or something!

Kathy`s ghost could visit Ian etc, they`ed have to bring back Gillan Taylforth for awhile then it was a big mistake killing Kathy off .

Big mistake like just killing off Angie off-screen too.
I'd much rather they came back for a little while first (even if killed off) just to get some character resolve, i think that's much better to be honest.

Big mistake like just killing off Angie off-screen too. I'd much rather they came back for a little while first (even if killed off) just to get some character resolve, i think that's much better to be honest. Not enough people (among the viewers and current cast) are aware of Kathy anymore to care about her dying, so a few scenes with Gillian Taylforth scowling at Phil and disapproving of Jane would have made this storyline more personal. We never saw Paul Trueman die either - it was implied, but they never filmed his demise. He was driven away to meet up with the nasty person he had double-crossed, and the next thing the cops are giving Patrick the bad news. Not that he was a great character, but I preferred him to Barry who was at least allowed to gasp and groan and plead and expire on a cold Scottish hill, so that we the viewers, as well as Janine, could be sure that he was in fact dead. Mrs Janine Evans returning to the Square with his urn was a master stroke of malice.

to me that`s where they made the mistake if they`ed showed Angie, Paul Trueman and Kathy even as a little tiny bit on screen in the story it would make people aware of them, instead of killing them off as they did . Barry was allowed too die on screen even if it was a cold scottish hill ,sowhy weren`t they?. I agree about the master stroke of Janine`s Malice returning to the square with Barry`s ash`s in the urn in a plastic carrier bag though I did wonder how she got him cremated so fast, as it does take sometime to arrange even in scotland .

yes and I can`t blame her either the Demarco family weren`t my favorite`s but they did grow on me, and I did like Rosa , it`s a rotten way to treat the actors, not fair .

It does seem quite unfair, but the actors know they are at the mercy of the scriptwriters when they take the part. Any character who is moved far away from London is easily forgotten and easy to lose altogether. Alarm bells should start to ring in those actors' heads. There's no guarantee of them being easily reintegrated with the plot and a new set of characters 6 months or a year down the line, especially the Di Marcos who I believe left no ties in Walford. Diane and Frank Butcher could pop up now and again because of Pat, but they might well be for the big chop one of these days like Kathy, Angie, the Di Marcos etc.

Louise says a woman came up to her in the street and said how sorry she was she died the night before. She has serious grudges against the BBC. LOL!

I doubt that the actress who played Angie would have returned, but I think that they should have checked to see if Gillian was available to do a few weeks of episodes before writing the scripts. It would have only taken a few phone calls between agents.

I agree but maybe E.E never thought of that.

We'll probably never know the real story - maybe negotiations broke down, so they just killed her off anyway without giving the viewers a chance to remember her character before her poor, orphaned son arrived to be battled over by Ian and Phil.

Hey good point there, valda. They probably didn't think of that. Got any ex-Corrie amnesiacs writing for them by any chance? Patsy

I did feel sorry for Ian though that purple haze lighting really annoyed me when he was talking to Martin in the caff. That was some good acting from him. Bloody stupid yet another death so soon.
