EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy is to take a break from the Square. The 22-year-old actress, who plays lesbian Sonia Fowler, has announced that after 12 years in Walford she wishes to take time out to further her career. Show bosses, however, are adamant that her character will not be killed off in her departure storyline. A spokesman for the BBC told DS: "Natalie will be taking a break from the show next year. She is a valued member of the EastEnders cast and we wish her all the very best during her break from the show." Natalie's 'final' scenes are due to be filmed next summer and will be broadcast two or three months later.
From Digital Spy www.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds31455.htmlFunny that they know this more than a year in advance isn't it? And the way that they can tell you it is going to be an explosive storyline so far in advance as well. Explosive usually means rubbish!

LOL! Have you noticed though a trend here? Todd Grimshaw turned gay for ratings - Bruno quits. Sonia turned gay for ratings - Natalie, er, takes time out.

I was actually thinking a few weeks back that it mightn't be too long before we heard that Natalie would be leaving as gay characters never last too long in soaps unless they are fairly celibate. Writers just don't have the patience to let a couple live happily for a long time without an affair, especially a gay couple.
Although now it seems that Sonia is bisexual rather than lesbian.
