Oh dear. Do you know if it was too close to the house or just went astray? What a terrible thing to happen. I hope no one was hurt.

Did jack have a speaking part Nick? If he did, was it the same sort of accent as Uncle Albert?

Not sure if anyone was hurt Patsy, but with all the cop cars, and Fire marshal vehicles going up the street this morning, I`m thinking it was arson.

If his part was so short, I'm amazed he was in the credits!
That would be terrible is it was arson. It's a stupid as people shoving fireworks through letterboxes. I hope it was just an accident.

It`s still under investigation....there hasn`t been anything on the local news or in the papers yet. They`re keeping Mum what has happened.
I got my U/D DVD in the mail today, and there are 4 episodes on there..... A Patriotic Offering, News From the Front, The Beastly Hun and Women Shall Not Weep I can`t strike up any enthusiasm to watch them just yet though.

I hope they do find out the cause. It isn't like news to not know everything.
Well at least they're there for when you do feel like it. How long before you have to send them back?

I can keep them as long as I like Patsy before I send them back, but will wait until Saturday to send them back as I haven`t received the other DVD yet (the one with Jack Howarth in it). I like to send them all off at the same time. Hubbys already watched All Creatures Great and Small He even schedules his days off from work on the day he knows he`ll receive them in the mail ;D

I just started watching 'News From the Front" where Edward comes home from leave from the army. Downstairs everything was jovial and when asked where Edwards parents were, he said they were out of London because of the bombing. Hudson laughed and said "whoever heard of London being bombed?" I felt like I was hit in the guts considering the previous days events. It was eerie...very eerie.

I know what you mean. It's just strange watching things like that even though it was set in a different time.
Good rental system that is then. I wonder if people never send them back?

I`m sure there are a few as one or two DVDs I`ve had in my queue have had a red flag next to it saying those titles are no longer available. And I was was so annoyed because I really wanted to watch one of them (ELO in concert). Plus there are the Zoids dvds that my son desperatly wants and now cannot get anywhere else. There`s no excuse really as the DVD comes in a prepaid envelope so it costs nothing to send it back. I love Netflix because they have tons of stuff to rent that you can`t even find in the stores here in the US ....Upstairs Downstairs for instance...and All creatures Great and Small.

Well rentals have certainly come a long way with more variety since the 80s. I'm trying to remember the last time I rented something. Probably Wicked Stepmother (Bette Davis's last film) in 1990 which was straight to video. I buy far too much I never watch again! LOL!
People can be very lazy. It's a shame if honest renters like you have to miss out because others don't return them.
Anyway, how are you getting on with UpDown. I was just watching Revelation of the Daleks with Jenny Tomasin. I keep forgetting she was on it because she's much fatter than Ruby was.

I`m just loving `em Patsy. Every DVD I receive is a massive treat for me as I haven`t seen a lot of them, and some are a distant memory. So it`s wonderful to watch them in order. I`m up to series 4 now, with WW1 affecting both upstairs and downstairs in Eaton Place. I read in the U/D website that they wrote out Meg Wyn Owen because they reckoned she never really had a place in 1920`s Britain, but I disagree. If they had to write Hazel out, then the writers should have let Hazel have a happy ending and go off and live abroad with the young man she met in the war. She was always too good for James in my opinion. And at the last episode of U/D they shouldn`t have killed off Gregory in WW1, but have him survive the war and have him arrive at Eaton Place in the very last scene and he and Rose could go live in Australia. I love happy endings, me ;D

Me too. Rose deserved happiness. But I'm baffled about Mrs Bridges. She tells Rose about seances and Rose is like she knows nothing about them despite Sarah having fake ones when she claimed Emily was talking to her in series 1!

*tut* Am watching Series 4, disk2. According the DVD sleeve it said I`d get the episodes Tug of War, Home Fires Burning, If You were The Only Girl in The World and The Glorious Dead, but The Glorious Dead wasn`t on there, will probably be on the next DVD when I get it next week in the mail.

I`m now on series 5 disk 2. Only 2 more DVDs in the series left I just watched Wanted - a good home where Master William went off to boarding school and kind hearted Rose got Alice a puppy. An Old Flame where James and Diana Newbury had an affair. Disillusion where Hudson fell in love with Lily the maid. Poor Hudson, my heart went out to him. And a brilliant performance between Hudson and Mrs Bridges. The best episode in this DVD in my opinion. Such a Lovely Man with Roberty Hardy as Guy Paynter. How smart Virginia was in sussing out that Guy was just using her to hide his own homosexuality. It`s still a massive treat for me to watch these DVDs. When I watch them I make sure I`m on my own so I can watch them in peace. I watch them on top of my bed sitting up with plenty of pillows with a bar of Cadburys choccy on my side table and my knitting basket close at hand. ;D

Most people I know hate Disillusion. Not quite on par with The Swedish Tiger but then what is? LOL! I've always liked the relationship between Hudson and Mrs B. He had a mid-life crisis! LOL!

I`ve never seen Disillusion before, so was quite unprepared to see the normally staid and formal Hudson break down in tears whilst reading Lily`s letter. It was very unexpected and very moving. And I agree Pats.. The Swedish Tiger was the worst eppy of U/D -ever. And judging by a lot of reaction from it - it wasn`t the aqctors favourite eppy either.

Gordon Jackson was a great actor and made people care about the grumpy Hudson. The Swedish Tiger was the actor's favourite according to Simon Williams because he said they had a lot of fun making it. But he knows fans hate it with a passion though can't understand why. LOL!
You're nearly at the end. You'll get so sad.

You`re right Pats, I was at the end....my very last DVD. It was incredibly sad to watch the last one as I`ve never seen it before. It was like saying goodbye to old friends I`ve known for years. I was tempted to rent Thomas and Sarah, but haven`t added them to my queue yet at Netflix as I`m completely spoilt for choice. I`ve got 60 in queue as it is ;D Hubby wanted me to rent Black Beauty (the Sean Bean one) as he watched half of it on the free weekend of HBO we had last week and he loved it. I asked him if he had read the book when he was in school like I did and he said no...only American authors. I was surprised at that as we read 'Of Mice and Men' and 'The grapes of Wrath'by John Steinbeck when I was in school and I loved them.

Yes that really is sad when Rose walks around the empty house and you hear the voices of the past. James became so arrogant though with all that wealth. I wish it had been explained exactly WHEN Elizabeth married this Dana bloke. Surely she wouldn't have been divorced from Lawrence by the time Lady Marjorie drowned on the Titanic. Took years then.

Deep in my heart I believe that James killed himself...not for the money he lost...or the shame of losing Roses money too...but for the fact that he lost Georginas love when she was getting married. Maybe a small part was because of the money, but I can`t help but think Georgina loving someone other than "Jumbo" tipped him over the edge.
Hearing Lady Marjories voice again really did send shivers down my spine. I really did get goosebumps. Wow I still find it hard to believe I`ve watched all 20 U/D DVDs. A brilliant series and will ever remain my favourite series.

We just had series 1 reissued here with those extras. Have to buy them though really. Yes. He felt really awful about losing what Gregory left her. Poor Rose. She never had any luck, did she? Georgina was pretty old when she married whatshisface. It was nice of her to give Edward and Daisy jobs. Finally Edward made Mr Hudson proud. Patsy
