I wondered what had happened to "Making Waves" last night - and I've just found an article about it: apparently it didn't make the expected audience and ITV1 have dropped it after just 3 episodes! They are not even planning to show the remaining 3 episodes for loyal fans - even in an obscure time slot. I am so peaved at this This was a well made, well casted drama that offered something different from hospitals and police stations. The characters were being introduced gently to the audience each week as a new story unfolded. Blah!

I'm well p***** off at this, I was really enjoying it. I was hoping it might even get a second series. Why don't they give stuff a chance. They did the same with Sweet Medicine, and loads of other stuff. Yet programmes that are total pants keep on going. I bet there is a new series of that Johnny/Denise thing on Saturday night.

What do they expect? For some reason (and I'm not sure why) Wednesday night doesn't have a big tradition with dramas on ITV and they have to take into account the first episode was broadcast in the middle of July!
They should have eiother given it a Sunday / Tuesday / Thursday slot in the mid Autumn or have been prepared for it to have needed time to have taken off.

Ever since the new system of collating ratings was introduced a few years ago that allowed broadcasters to see rating figures overnight, instead of weeks later, TV has changed: Especially for ITV.
As it's a totally independent channel is has to be funded by adverts, and in a way the ad companies do dictate a lot of things to ITV. If a program isn't being watched by a lot of people then not a lot of people will be watching the company’s adverts. This means ITV has to pull the show otherwise the advertisers will pull their ads from the channel, and without ads ITV couldn't be able to generate enough money to broadcast anything and it would slowly become a downward spiral.
The only way to stop this would be if the license fee funded ITV. This of course could never ever happen because it defeats the whole object of the channel. After all it is called 'Independent Television' meaning that it is solely independent from BBC and the license fee and as a result the viewer pays nothing to watch it's channels and programs.
It is only very rare that they pull programs from schedules in case of an uproar from the viewers. The only other show I can recall them doing it is 'Judgement Day.' It was an absolutely appalling Saturday night game show presented by Brian Connelly. From the very first show you could just see that the concept was too bland and just would never work. So ITV, quite rightly, pulled it.
It's a shame about 'Making Waves’; I can't see how it failed because it had a very good concept. As you sat, they should put it on in the early morning so people can tape it and at least it would keep the viewers happy. Maybe you should start a petition or something?
