Thanks Patsy! I was chatting with my cousin yesterday-they had just got in from Manchester. They had been to look at the university there. He said it was a 10 minute walk to the studios-I was so jealous!!!! That sounds like quite a meeting you had with Brian Capron!! You are so lucky-he sounds like such a nice man! I know what you mean about getting excited. Last year I stood in line for over an hour to meet Sue Cleaver at the show. I was so excited-that I forgot to have my photo taken. I went over to my hubby and he said lets see your photo, I was so embarrassed and felt so stupid that I had to go back and admit I had forgotten to have it done. (ticket was all clammy in my hand! LOL) Out of the 16 stars I have met, Sue Cleaver was my least favourite. She gave me the impression that she did not want to be at the show-didn't really have much time for the fans. She didn't even autograph her cards-her name was printed on and she just wrote Lots of love. I have a tshirt with my husband and I on it at the Rovers. I get the stars to sign my tshirt. I told Sue I had stood at the studios last time I was over. She said to me "oh, you are one of them!" I was so shocked, I didn't know what to say. Afterwards I thought I should have told her, " Yes, I am a FAN!" Les will be the 14th signature on my tshirt!

Ooh, reading that about Sue Cleaver makes me so mad. Some people look right down their noses once they get well paid jobs or start acting like the great I am. I hate them. There was a piece in the paper last year or the year before about Jenny MacAlpine going to Pizza Hut in Oxford Road (near the studio) and found it was closed so did the, "Do you know who I am?" bit allegedly and demanded it be open for her! Then there's the ones who can't be bothered replying to fan mail. I remember years ago a now former German friend of mine wrote to Katherine Hepburn and got this reply from her secretary saying, "I'm very sorry but Miss Hepburn doesn't answer fan mail." The rant she went into about stars and who put them there. LOL! I wrote to Lucie Arnaz last year and said to a Candian friend of mine (and fellow Lucille Ball fan) how I doubted I'd get a reply and he assured me I would because her mother instilled in her to ALWAYS reply to fan mail because fans are very important. I did get a reply after just 4 months. Signed 8X10 (personalised, not just pre-printed) and biog sheet. LOL! Better than nothing though. I've heard good things about Bruce Jones so you should be all right there. Just remember to get the photo taken this time. Have you got photos with any of the others you've met? Patsy

I have an album with my photos in with cast members- there are me with Audrey, Sunita, Mike, Jason, Ashley, Tyrone, Ken, Kevin, Norris, Denise Osborne, Judy Mallet, Geena, Curly,Maria, Terry Duckworth and Eileen. (I was told I did very good getting 9 autographs/photos the day I stood at Granada! I did see Gail, Peter, Shelly, Maxine, Sarah, Bethany-twins, Rita and Monica as well that day, but they didn't come to the gates or stop.) Everyone seems to love my photo of Norris-Malcolm Hedben was shocked when hubby quickly snapped photo, so it looks typical Norris. I am positive that photo got passed around Boots when I had them developed. It was not in order and I could feel people staring at me as I was paying.

You're so lucky, Deborah. One I'd really LOVE to meet (apart from Barbara Knox which is extremely unlikely) is Sue Nicholls. She was part of my childhood as Nadia Popov, a ghost who disappeared when she sneezed in Rentaghost. I used to wish I could be like Miss Popov. LOL! It's nice they make the effort. After all, I've heard fans can stay out there hours in all weathers and to just ignore is very rude. Don't forget your camera for Bruce Jones. Patsy

Sue Nicholls was very nice! Two guys from Liverpool were at the gates when I was there-they told me they go there once a month. (they knew everyones cars etc. and were a great help to me) They saw Sue's car and ran in front of it so she would stop.(no way would I have done that. They really looked out for me that day and I hope to meet them again! I really enjoyed hearing their stories.) I asked her if she could sign my tshirt. 'She said what is your name? How do you spell it?' I then told her I had come all the way from Canada to see her-and her tune changed. She was so nice!!! We chatted for a little while and then we had our photo taken. Sue was also the guest with her husband for the Canadians who went on the tour of Coronation Street in September. I heard she was great!!! I have also heard that Sue writes a hand written note back to you if you write her a letter!

Blimey, they must be mad or want to be run over! I wouldn't do that either. So was she a bit put out before you said you were from Canada? Maybe they're all so used to the crazy Brits camping outside the studio it makes a change to get a fan from abroad to natter to.
Yes, Sue is one who always replies, though not always hand written. One friend got hand. Another friend and myself got typed. But she's one of the few left these days who actually makes the effort. I know the schedule's more hectic than in the past but they still get plenty of time off so could pick up a pen.

Yes I got a reply from Sue. She is the ONLY one who has written a reply rather than just sent a signed photo. She seems lovely.
Im visiting Manchester shortly so cannot wait to see the set from the science museum and take photos!

When are you off? Wrap up warm and take a Thermos of hot tea, coffee, soup or chocolate.

Patsy-I think Sue Nicholls was probably a bit annoyed that they ran in front of her car. I know I would not be impressed. Jez-when are you going? Good job I don't live in the UK, I would be there a lot!!! I also got a personal note from Jack P Shepherd-it was typed, but it was to me.

To get back to the original question, I have been watching Corrie on and off from the first episode, I was about ten years old and watched it in my Grandma's house. The first episode was on a Friday, but it later changed to Mondays and Wednesdays. I remember Ena Sharples being in it and our being amused by her hair net which was a very thick denier. The north country accents were much stronger then and it was a bit difficult for us to understand all that was said.
I live overseas now and keep up to date with the various updates, and get to see it "live" for a couple of months a year when I go back to the UK. The local cable company runs two year old episodes of Corrie as well.
I think I may do the Manchester trip when I am next home, sounds fun.

Deborah, I'm not surprised. I'd too much of a coward but some people like taking their life in their hands. Well done on the reply from Jack P Shepherd. I'm with you, even though I live in the UK. But if I lived in Manchester or Liverpool I would go a lot. Bit more difficult so far south and I'm far too bone idle to make the effort even with cheap flights. LOL! Sethy, blimey that's a long time ago. I remember reading that they wanted northern people back then. Though of course, a lot had elocution lessons to knock the accent out. Now they use southerners and you can often tell because they accent slips. Come to think of it, even the likes of Barbara Knox and Helen Worth's slip. But at least none are as bad as Laurel in Emmerdale, with her northern accent but southern pronuciation. Accents are a little bugbear of mine probably because of my varying ancestry (most of which is from the north). But I digress. Are you in Canada now? It's getting further and further behind there thanks to these pointless 5 eps a week. I've heard hanging around the studio can be fun. A bloke I know usually goes once a month. Still quite a distance but a heck off a lot nearer than me and he's not as lazy as me. LOL! Patsy

Patsy - no not Canada but Brisbane, Australia. The current episodes cover Karen's affair with Joe, Les is about to go to jail and Peter and Shelley are planning their wedding. Corrie is shown every week day and they have started an omnibus on Saturday. I have written to Foxtel asking them to start showing Emmerdale, but no luck so far.

Sethy-I am in Canada about 10 months behind now. I also have to read the UK updates and all the spoilers to know what is coming up. You are so lucky to have watched Corrie for so long. The storylines have changed so much over the years-murders, affairs etc. I used to enjoy the comedy and the day to day lives of the characters. I would love to see another couple be married for years like Jack and Vera. I watched a Corrie special last week on a dvd set that has recently come out here-Daran Little was saying how Ena Sharples used to wear 3 hairnets as one did not show up on camera!

Isn't it rotten though you all got just the first 5 eps on DVD while we got the first 12 on VHS?

When are you off? Wrap up warm and take a Thermos of hot tea, coffee, soup or chocolate. Patsy i went yesterday, didnt see Barbara though. Journey up was a bit of a nightmare as there was a delay which meant we missed our connection and had to wait nearly another hour at Cardiff Central station so ended up getting there 2 hours late, but we asked the people at the station and they said we could get a later train back so ended up having roughly the same amount of time there. Journey back was fine though, had to wait for a connection at Cardiff again but it was only 1/2 hour wait, didnt get home until gone 11 though. Anyway I took loads of photo's, used up 1 1/2 films worth of photo's, took pics of the front of Granada, the plaques on the wall, the outside of the old studio tours enterance and loads from the windows at the museum, I couldnt believe how close the street was. I hope they all come out OK. As I said we didnt see Barbara, or Kate, but there were people occasionally walking back and forwards on the street including Rosie, Craig, Katy, Martin, Scooter and Sarah. Also I think they have changed the corner shop again, isnt it a bluey colour on screen arm? Well yesterday it looked more red colour. Also you know where the outside of Davenports Garage is, we saw the set of that, its the other side of the huge warehouse building, which used to be part of the studio tours.

I heard Davenports was where part of the tour was. It really looks like a proper showroom and street on screen, doesn't it? Hopefully I'll be able to get up and see for myself on of these impending months if my aunt's up to putting up with me for a few days. LOL!

Patsy Yes on screen it does look like a proper showroom doesnt it. I was surprised to see it was part of the actual studios in Manchester, just assumed they filmed it at a location elsewhere. Ive not had a chance to check my tapes to see about the shop yet, but im certain the colour is different on the set now.

At least you got to see the street-that is more than a lot of people get to see. Yes very true, and ive walked on them cobbles twice so cant complain really. My sister didnt even know the tours had closed until I said and she said how lucky we were to get the chance to go to the Street.

We did the tour about 10 years ago. I think we had only watched Coronation Street for about a month-when we went to England. On the Saturday my uncle asked what we wanted to do-my husband jokingly said go to Coronation Street. The next day we were at the tour. My husbands first pint in England was actually at the Rovers!! I did enjoy the tour, but I know if they still had the tours today I would appreciate it so much more ! There is a group of Canadians that go on a 10 day tour to England each September. They get to go on the Street, have special dinners with a Corrie guest and other special things. I would love to do the trip one year.

That settles it. I'm going to Canada to pretend to be a Canuck to get on that tour! ;D
I wish they'd do things like that for us Brits. We deserve a reward for all the endless trailers. LOL!
I went to Brookside once. My horrible aunt took us there in about 1984 (it started in November 1982). Couldn't get in to the set but the security guard sold souvenirs from his little cabin so we bought some mugs. LOL!
