From Digital SpyCoronation Street actor William Roache faced embarrassment when just three fans turned up to a book signing for his new autobiography. Roache - who plays Ken Barlow on the ITV1 soap - made an appearance at a Waterstone's shop in Wilmslow, Cheshire, to promote his book Soul on the Street. However, the event clashed with a nearby Christmas lights switch-on by Manchester United's Edwin Van Der Sar, which proved to be more popular with local residents. An onlooker told the Daily Record: "It was a bit embarrassing but William took it all in good heart. He's a great sport and was happy to speak to those who turned up." William had planned to give a talk about the autobiography, but it was cancelled due to lack of interest. Store manager Kyran Donald said: "There were about 25 to 30 requests for signed copies but not everyone could make it." Pamela Kaye, 63, who was one of the three fans, revealed: "We had a very informal chat and he gave me a peck on the cheek. He was very lovely and very easy to talk to. I was very lucky because I was thinking about not going."

Desperate to sell it.
I remember when Shane Warne did a signing. My dad told me about it when I was in Spain and as my friend Fiona is a massive fan I went along to WHSmith. He only did about half a dozen signings full stop and the majority were Hampshire. Think there was one in London. Not good for people like her who don't live in Hampshire (she's in Yorkshire).

Well if Barbara wrote a book and went to a WHSMITH to sign copies for her fans I wonder how many of us would turn up!

She wouldn't write a book if she can't write replies. Well not unless she really wants to polish us off. LOL!

Meet the peasants? Who do you think she is, Reet? She's never lower herself to have anything to do with who she sees are the great unwashed. Patsy

I think William Roache might have had more luck if he had done the signing in Manchester !!
Wilmslow is not the sort of place for mass book signing.

Tom Baker skipped Southampton altogether and his only Hampshire signing was Ringwood. Yeah a real crowd pulling place. LOL!

Good ole Ken...how I love thee. What a trooper. I`ll said it before and I`ll say it again.... no one could beat Ken in the gorgous stakes when he was in his 20`s. Fair play, he looks pretty good for his age now mind. And the apple doesn`t fall far from the tree because his son Linus is really good looking too. Didn`t Linus play Peter Barlow years ago??

He did in the 70s if I remember rightly. Course Linus did get further than his dad. I wonder if he regrets that? Bill that is, not Linus? Seeing his son in Hollywood things and knowing he stayed in the same job playing the same character.
