Anyone else watch this?
We thought it was excellent, and certainly worthy of a full series.
Shaun Evans was tremendous as the young Morse, and although not particularly like John Thaw's older Morse in looks, he captured perfectly all the physical mannerisms and tics of his older self.
The period (mid-60s) was done very well, and there were plenty of nods to all Morse's foibles (liking for beer, classical music, a fleeting glimpse of a red Jaguar on a used car lot).
Roger Mallam also very good as the senior officer, who can see something a bit 'special' about Morse.
On top of all this, it was a bloody good story!
Very enjoyable.

I'll say one thing for ITV..they don't stop the star of the show dying from letting them milk a formula do they

I thought this was great with a few touching moments. Nice to see him do a scene with Abigail Thaw...I bet that was a bit surreal.
I thought the actor was very good and portrayed what I should imagine a young Morse was like.
It got very good viewing figures an ITV were saying they wanted more and maybe a series.
Your right Nick they milk a formula, but when it's quality stuff, I don't really mind.

We didn't watch it at the start, but have managed to catch up over the years due to the repeats.
Well worth a look Nick - Morse is a very complex character, and his relationship with Lewis is fascinating.

I watched the first and last. Could never get into it the way I did with Frost or even Midsomer Murders.

First episode of Endeavour (series) tremendous - fantastic attention to period detail, great story, and Shaun Evans even better than he was in the pilot episode.

Great programme with excellent cast and writing...a sure fore winner to replace Lewis. Shaun Evans was on 'This Morning' yesterday and comes over as a very nice bloke.

I like all of them, but for different reasons.
Morse simply for the character of Morse himself.
Lewis for his relationship with Hathaway (who deserves his own spin-off series IMO!)
Endeavour for the re-imagining of the original character, and the great period feel (a period I grew up in).
Last Sunday's episode a real belter!

It always seems to be Morse in Endevour who always cracks the case, even although he has the least experiance, and he makes the rest of the cops out to be clueless idiots.
