Anyone else watching?
Italian detective series on BBC4 Saturdays, set in Sicily, from novels by Andrea Camilleri. Subtitled, but definitely worth watching.
Charismatic lead, good stories, beautiful architecture, some humour, just good entertainment.

Yes - tremendous start - I think this may well be one of my all-time favourite police/detective series.
Whole cast are great, fantastic scenery, just enough humour, and very, very charismatic lead.
I don't even mind the subtitles!

I agree....and once you get into the rhythym of reading subtitles it's no problem

There seems to be a lot of house interiors in Sicily that look like derelict houses !!

But isn't that what they call 'old money'?
...also factor in the amount of kidnappings in Italy/Sicily and I'm not really surprised!

Yes, it was good. Only one more to go. ...would just add that we've both absolutely loved this show; perfect in pretty much every way. Am now very tempted to start reading the books! ;D

No publicity by the BBC, so missed the first episode, but now enjoying the prequel Young Montalbano, set in 1990. Same glorious locations and great recasting of main characters. Part-written by Andrea Camilleri, who wrote the original novels. Some nice touches - his car is the same, but looks very new, and has all it's wheeltrims intact! More emphasis on his love of good food! Also found out how he got that fabulous apartment. First two episodes available on iPlayer.

Have you tried it yet Nick?
We've really got into it now, probably as much as 'old' Montalbano.
He's now been joined by Fazio, who is just out of police school, and Mimi, who is even more of a Lothario as a young man (if that's possible).
He's also just started his relationship with Livia.
A second series has already been commissioned, and the latest (and I think last) series of 'old' Montalbano is to be screened soon.
