There seem to be a load more temporary tv channels opening up just for the Olympics which is great. I just hope the weather isn't too 'British' I am also really looking forward to it.

Some was boring but I LOVED those smelted rings, Queenie as a Bond Girl and the cauldron. Pity the media hyped up who would light the cauldron and the stupid BBC assumed Steve Redgrave was the one.

We loved it!
Total contrast to the spectacular (but ultimately OTT and irrelevant) ceremony in Beijing.
Last night had great humour, British quirkiness, and some genuinely gob-smacking moments.
Very original, and a real smack in the eye for all the nay-sayers.

I agree..and the Queen joining in with the Bond spoof was great
At least all our fireworks and singers were real unlike the CGI'd fireworks and miming singers in Beijing

Oh blimey. A FB friend is such a miserable grump, saying yet again the money would be better spent on hospital etc. There's no guarantee it would be. Overseas aid to countries who don't need it or down the bog trying to save the euro. At least it's regenerated part of London and the tourists will boost the economy. I saw the Olympic Park in building stages back in 2009 en route to Harwich and they've done brilliantly.

There was a comment I read (Sun maybe) saying the average Man City footballer costs £27 million. LOL!

What I`ve seen of it so far is absolutely brilliant. It made me so immensity proud to be British. I was unable to watch it last night, and the video I got it online from has stalled at 58.58 I laughed til my sides hurt at Rowan Atkinson. What a brilliant concept to have James Bond and the Queen in a sketch together. Those miserable sods at YouTube pulled most of the opening ceremony so I haven`t seen past 68.58. I`ll hunt elsewhere for it.

Can you not watch it on BBC iPlayer Wendy? Failing that, there appear to be lots of uploads of it on Pirate Bay.

On a personal note I thought the opening ceremony in London was way better than the Beijing one because it involved characters and history than was recognised the whole world over. The Bejing Olympics opening was too perfect, too precise if you know what I mean.

Absolutely flippin' loved the opening ceremony. It was so clever and quirkily British. I don't know which bits I liked the best. I thought the way they lit the cauldron with the young people was terrific and a real turn up for the books with all the names that had been bandied about.
I am now on permanent tv watch. I have also removed the remote control off my husband who seems to have developed an interest in beach volleyball. ;D

If a member of TeamGB was Welsh, and they won a gold medal.....would they play the Welsh National Anthem or the British one?

Post by Nick on Aug 3, 2012 11:22:38 GMT
They would play the GB anthem as the athletes are taking part for Great Britain...if it was the Commonwealth Games where each country of GB competes individually then it would be the Welsh national anthem..
Hurray, we are now above the French in the medals table (we are currently 4th !!!!! )

Thanks for that Nick. Hooray for Team GB. Although the only sport the French would excel in is archery as they were quite used to lifting up their arms in surrender during WW2. I`m kidding. ;D
