Just watched last one (of the three scheduled) Brilliant! Dark, a little grisly in places (pathology lab), but superb acting by everyone, great stories, and even better-than-average attention to period detail (1950s Dublin). Hopefully there will be more, as the author Benjamin Black has written a whole series of them. Do try and catch on iplayer if you haven't seen them.

Great series with an excellent cast. I really hope they do another series. First time I've seen Gabriel Byrne for years.

I noticed there had been complaints about sound quality in Quirke, but it was perfectly fine for us, once you'd tuned in to the strong Irish accents. Modern TVs have lots of settings you can fiddle about with if necessary, but TBH even the Beeb have admitted there are problems to be addressed in future productions. Only one we had a problem with was Jamaica Inn, and that was just the one character who mumbled all the way through it - we just turned subtitles on.

I didn't notice the mumbling in Quirke (just the gloominess) but it ruined Jamaica Inn for me...or at least the mumbling Sean Harris did. He won a Bafta for something he did and I could hardly hear a word of his mumbling acceptance speech. This has decided me to never watch anything he is in again !!

Mumbling's been going on for years, even in Corrie when I watched. Before our analogue switch off, I always had subtitles on because some actors were indistinct.
