I recently splurged and ordered a bunch of Network DVDs (Emmerdale Farm, Lillie, Zodiac, End Of Part One, Ghosts Of Motley Hall, Catweazle) and was thinking of British shows I remember or even simply read of and wish I could see.
I guess more than anything might be this teen show I remember circa 1980s that had Prunella Scales as an advice to the lovelorn magazine lady appearing in a bubble to counsel the female teen lead. I think the show was called S.W.A.L.K. and had a sort synthy new-wave theme tune I liked. Nobody else seems to remember it and thinks I am misremembering Adrian Mole which I also saw 'back in the day' as they say.
I'd also like to see The serial version of The Phoenix And The Carpet which I watched raptly circa the late '70s. I think the actors were the same as for the slightly larger budget full length single story version, I'm sure the puppet and it's voice were. This will probably never happen though.
In terms of having read of, I might like to see Elidor as I did read the book, and I've had The owl Service DVD for awhile.

You were right about S.W.A.L.K. - I don't remember it personally, but there's an entry in IMDB. Looks like she played a character called Aunt Pattie. Only 6 episodes, but a few other notable names in the castlist - Nicola and Gerry Cowper (who got loads of work as youngsters) and Shirley Stelfox, who of course plays Edna in Emmerdale.

That would explain why Edna seemed somewhat familiar! At only six episodes I might have seen them all and imagined there being more.

I remember a film in the early 70`s called S.W.A.L.K with Mark Lester (Oliver), Jack Wilde was in it, and Roy Kinnear played the girlfriends Dad. It was about young love, and was very good. Coincidentally enough binty, I watched Lillie 2 weeks ago. I got those DVDs about 5 years ago, and loved them. I also have 'Edward VIIth' (it`s called Edward the King over here in the USA.) Both Lillie and Edward VIIth were written by David Butler who also wrote the excellent 'We`ll Meet Again' miniseries which I fell in love in the early 80`s and bought them on DVD 9 years ago. I bought the books in the early 80`s and the sequel in the mid 80`s too. It`s my most watched DVD set.

I'm hoping the rumours Phil Morris found loads of non-Doctor Who stuff on his travels is true. There appear to be some great missing programmes I'd like to see.

I remember the King Edward series being very good too. I'll definitely have to look for 'We'll Meet Again'; it's added to the list with 'I Didn't Know You Cared'. Right now I'm waiting on the Adam Adamant set to arrive! I've only ever read about this program. I saw a used set listed at a low price and pounced.
I read something once about there being many 'Til Death Us Do Part' episodes that the BBC wiped, I'd like to see more of it, not sure why. It seems a bit odd to pay for the strictly comedies though as I've found I don't seem to enjoy them much more than once.
We had the Aus Cell Block show on a specialty channel here for a long time but it was on at a time that I tended not to be around for it so never got into it. There was also a Venezuelan soap about someone named Gabrielle going to prison there, Lady Of the Rose or something... it was dubbed into English and I was just getting hooked when they stopped showing it.

I stopped buying DVDs several years ago because I didn't have time to watch them. Still have loads unopened. Finally watched my Dutch import of Poldark a couple of months ago. One of my favourite ITC shows is The Buccanneers with Robert Shaw. The original Bravo used to show all these old 50s and 60s ITC shows and The Avengers in the 90s and I just loved them. I got through blank tapes weekly with them and UK Gold showing the classic stuff. Sadly most have been thrown out now due to mould.

I savour the DVDs I do get. I seem to like having things around I haven't completely watched or read yet. Maybe it represents the idea of having that time in store? So long as I haven't watched all of A Kind Of Loving it's in my future for example...
So far as something I wouldn't buy but would like to see again I wish someone would rerun The Young Ones and Bottom. Maybe because of Rik Mayall dying makes me think of those. Especially would like to see that one where Madness perform 'House Of Fun' at some club. Bunch a suede heads then!

I don't know that programme. Am only just learning about a Red Dwarf style show called Kinvig and off to look for it on the net. I hope it's not more like Come Back Mrs. Noah...

I can remember years ago a soap channel was being considered in the UK. It would have been a phenomenal success if it ever went through as the Granada channel was hugely popular. Then it was rumoured about an Oz Gold' channel. That would have been excellent too had it happened. The Soapnet channel here is very popular. I can remember years ago calling long distance to ask if Soapnet would ever consider British and Australian soaps in their line up and I got a terse 'no, we`re happy with the line up the way it is'. I`m a huge fan of both British and Australian shows - the more the merrier. My DVD set of ' A Harp in the South' and its sequel 'Poor Mans Orange' continues to be my fave Australian miniseries - as well as 'Anzacs' and 'Jackaroo'.

I'd love to have a soap channel with series from all over the world. Occasionally I've stumbled onto melodramatic Indian and Chinese soaps and many seem very entertaining, especially the historical ones! Some were already subtitled as well.
