Entertaining, but as with a lot of ITV dramas, it's a bit 'light and fluffy' with no real depth to it.
Sheridan Smith seems to have cornered the market in this type of role, but what she does, she does well.
As I said, fun to watch, especially if you were brought up in that era and can recognize some of the more obscure characters (Kingsize Taylor, Rory Storm, The Big Three), but not going to win any prizes for top drama.
...and is it just me, or is there a tendency for ITV period dramas like this to look a bit phoney compared to stuff from the BBC?
They get the clothes, props and cars right, but everything looks a bit too clean and plasticky, as if it's just come out of storage.

Does Cilla even deserve something like this? Even Scousers hate her fake accent.

I liked it. But the only reason I watched was for Sheridan Smith, not false as 40 ar$eholes Cilla herself. Sheridan is a brilliant actress. Loved her in Mrs Biggs too. Sheridan has a wonderful singing voice too....even better than Cillas.

I can belt out those songs too Pats. Last year when I had a huge bonfire going in our back yard, I was listening to my mp3 player and singing "After You Got What You Want You Don`t Want It (From Boardwalk Empire) at the top of my lungs, and hubby said he could hear me from the living room LOL
