Some good stuff on of late:- Grantchester - '50s murder mystery/detective drama - well-written, good cast (James Norton, Robson Greene, Tessa Peake Jones), and (for once) ITV seem to have got the period 'feel' spot-on. www.imdb.com/title/tt3747572/?ref_=nv_sr_1Detectorists - brilliant new comedy from (and starring) Mackenzie Crook, with Toby Jones and Rachael Stirling. Original, quirky, but also very moving at times. www.imdb.com/title/tt4082744/?ref_=nv_sr_2The Secrets - a series of 5 (or was it 6) stand-alone 30 minute dramas, all excellent, with some great writing and acting (Alison Steadman, Helen Baxendale, Joanne Froggatt, Ben Chaplin and Emilia Fox, amongst others). I wish we saw more of this kind of thing - a great opportunity for new writers to show what they're capable of. www.imdb.com/title/tt3376510/?ref_=nv_sr_1

I am a big fan of Granchester and do hope a series two comes along. It's nice to see James Norton playing a character so different to the mudering Psychopath he played in Happy Valley. I love the contrast between him and Robson Green.
I watched Secrets a while ago, good cast and good stories. Haven't watched Detectorists...did you know that Toby Jones is the son of Freddie Jones (Sandy in Emmerdale)

Ooh Grantchester sounds really good. I love Robson Greene. Thanks Paul, will give it a go after Downton Abbey tonight.

Grantchester got better and better as we got to know the characters and something of their background, and as I mentioned before - it looked stunning (and REAL).
The last episode of the series was really excellent - much darker and more violent.
This show was definitely a cut above the usual 'fluffy' Sunday evening dramas we've had over the years, and good to see a portrayal of a man of the cloth with so many human failings.
Hope there will be a second series - it's had (overall) good reviews, and James Runcie continues to write the series of books on which the show is based.
It became one of our TV highlights of the week during its short run.
