Well worth it Wendy - Carol and I reckon it's one of the best things we've seen for a while, and it's been far too long since there was a decent ghost story on TV.
Tremendous acting, wonderful dark, overcast appearance, and genuinely creepy - even scary in places, but without any graphic, gory content.
The young actress (Jodie Comer) was a stand-out for me, but Mark Addy, Michael Palin and Julia Sawalha were all great too.
Has had mixed reviews - some excellent, some dismissive, but we absolutely loved it.
9/10

I loved this (Anything that is creepy is ok by me) I couldn't believe what a good actor Michael Palin is.

This was really good as a ghost story, but I must admit I didn't get the significance of the song Scarborough Fair, apart from the scenes in Scarborough.. I must have missed why so many versions of the song were necessary, and how that affected the story. Julia Sawhalla is one of my favourite actresses - she can do no wrong. nice to see her on telly again. I did see her recently on DVD in Time Gentleman, Please - a pretty crude comedy featuring Al Murray's pub landlord character. She can play anything excellently.

Hi Pearly,
the significance of the various versions of Scarborough Fair was that only one version had the words that would get rid of the ghost, and Tom (the old man) didn't know which version it was and was trying to find it.
If I recall, the only person who knew the right version was the old dear in the wheelchair, who remembered the ayah singing it to Tom when he was a child.

I'd never heard this version of 'Scarborough Fair before. I'd only ever heard the Simon and Garfunkle version
