James-Collier 'glad' to be leaving Corrie

Rob James-Collier has admitted he is "glad" to be leaving Coronation Street, saying he wants to ditch his sex symbol image.

The 31-year-old, who plays Liam Connor on the ITV soap, told New! magazine that winning the sexiest male prize at the British Soap Awards for two consecutive years influenced his decision to quit Weatherfield.

"In a way this is why I am glad to be leaving the show," he said. "You can work your nuts off acting-wise, but as soon as you appear on screen in a towel, bingo, you're the sexiest male."

The actor added that he will be careful when it comes to choosing his next job and won't fall into the soap star trap of doing pantomime.

He said: "I won't be doing panto. I want to be taken seriously as an actor and that means landing the right part."

Hmm, well I could tell that he wasnt amused at winning sexiest male. Dont blame him really - it cant be nice being nominated for Best Actor, not even making the final 4 and then winning an award based on looks and nothing to do with acting!

I wonder what he will end up doing after Corrie then? Pity he isnt doing panto - id have gone to see him lol!

LOL! He really has a snobbish attitude towards what many respected actors have done down the decades. Even Ian McKellen had a go. I hope he ends up in panto. That'll teach him to be stuck up.

Well when I met him in February he told me that he couldnt wait to go for auditions for new parts and he missed doing that.

He may have many auditions, but it doesn`t mean he`ll get the part.
Most actors have that problem though...even though they have finished with their contract, they are still being shown on screen and therefore still well known.
Slagging off a show that made him famous and being ungracious accepting an award doesn`t help either. After all, the potential client might think that the actor would slag off their show too should they hire him.

I think these days most actors go into a soap as a way of boosting their profile, hence them not sticking around long. They want to be famous and instant fame rather than being a jobbing actor. That is the way to be then you will never be unemployed because the public is fickle and once they past their sell-by date (as happens to women quicker) they'll be glad of panto.

I can see his point about sexiest male awards tho - they are nothing to do with acting and I can see why he hates winning them!!!

That's why Steve McFadden dismissed Villain awards because they had nothing to do with acting and the Best Actor meant more to him. Sexiest are shallow and pointless as I've always said.
