Jacks back......series 5 starts on Sky One with a double episode tomorrow night. Series 1 & 2 were excellent...3 was a little iffy, and 4 was disastrous. Bring back Elisha Cuthbert I say !!! Who knows what series 5 holds, but shur, we'll give it a go anyway...

I'm still upset by the opening two episodes of Day 5 a week later! They were painful, very painful. Never before has 24 caused me so much hurt, so much pain.
When David Palmer was assasinated it was very bad. But then when Michelle was blown up and Tony almost killed it really, really hurt me bigtime. For two characters who've been in the series since the start to be murdered like that in the first 20 minutes of Day 5 was just terrible.
At least Audrey and Chloe are back (and Chloe has a boyfriend!!! I think he is a mole though). And Tony didn't die, which eased my pain a bit. After suspending my hurt and shock, I enjoyed the rest of episode 1 and all of episode 2. Martha Logan is brilliant - so different from her predessor - Sherry Palmer. I loved they way she ran from her bedroom with soaking hair out onto the grass.
I also love the fact that Walt is involved with the terrorists - a twist I really didn't suspect. And the bit at the end of episode 2 with Jack in the airport left me dying for more. I want to know how he'll get out of this situatuion.
This Sunday night the 100th episode will be shown, so apparently there are more amazing twists in that! Can't wait!

I think it was the right way to go though. It's hard to see how they could have brought David back into the show without making it too contrived. They could possibly have made him run for President again, but that would be going over old ground & isn't something that the majority of ex- American Presidents do.
So, rather than sideline him I think it was a brave move to kill him off. There wasn't much more they could do with the character anyway & killing such a big character off in the first 10 minutes just underlines the feeling that nobody is safe.
I do think that there was a bit more mileage in the character of Michelle however. She & Tony could have helped Jack from outside of CTU. Perhaps Reiko Aylesworth's schedule didn't permit her to commit to a significant number of episodes & she agreed to make a cameo appearance to kill the characters off & underline the fact even further that nobody is safe?

I sort of agree with you with Palmer now, in hindsight! And I definitley agree with what you said about Michelle. I would have liked to have maybe seen her go rouge or something like that. She is a good character.
I think that she is starring in some other show, so that was where the problem came from. She was probably told that "we are killing Michelle off - one way or another if you can't commit so please come back and say goodbye to her".
