According to a survey on TV programmes, CSI: Miami is the most popular programme in the World.
Lost is second, and Desperate Housewives third.

Oh my goodness! where on earth do they get that from? I never believe surveys though. It's like when they say so many millions watched a certain episode of EastEnders over Emmerdale, but how do they know someone didn't tape it and watch it another day?

That is quite surprising. From what I've read, most people don't prefer CSI:Miami compared with CSI and CSI:NY, let alone it be their favourite programme on TV! I don't watch Lost or Desperate Housewives either. I must be very out of touch with what's "in" LOL

Different countries ( There were more than 20 ) did their own surveys, and that's what they came up with.
I was suprised that the original CSI: was beaten by Miami though.

In thursday in CSI:Miami was an accident with Remington Model 700BDL rifle (I will not describe details). Man got lethal bullet hit on distance of 10 meters. The rifle lied on ground, and the projection of the bullet line of flight for some reason has received perpendicular to a plane parallel to a body (hit angle 90deg) Height ~1.75m, bullet hit height (h) ~1.45m x - hit angle (real) S - bullet overcome distance. L=10m S^2 = L^2 + h^2 = 102.1025 => S = 10.1m x = 90 - arccos(L/S) = 81.93deg. It is not very interesting, next will be more interesting.
The bullet stayed inside and was not deformed. So the type of bullet is FMJ. Let's make simple mathematical operations to find numerical value of kinetic energy of bullet. Muzzle velocity of bullets .308Win (7.62mm NATO) V(FMJ) = V(JHP) = 853 meters (2800 feet) per second (next will be m/sec (ft/sec)); V(JSP) = 850 m/sec. m (weight of bullet) = 9.3 grammes (g) Formula for kinetic energy - E=mV^2/2 E(FMJ) = E(JHP) = m*V(FMJ)^2/2 = m*V(JHP)^2/2 = 9.3*10^(-3) * 853^2 / 2 = 3383.38 J E(JSP) = m*V(JSP)^2/2 = 9.3*10^(-3) * 850^2 / 2 = 3351.25 J To pounch through the human body 7.62mm NATO FMJ bullet must to have kinetic energy near 250 J; JHP - 800 J; JSP - 1200 J. In this distance 7.62 mm NATO FMJ or JHP or JSP bullet must to punch through the body. FMJ will leave "output" hole by size of fist. JHP and JSP bullets will be seriously deformed and will pull out a part of a backbone, break a neck, throw out for 3-5 meters....
Make your conclusions.
P.S. J = kg * m^2 / s^2 March, 1983. Military unit 08737 of Ural Military District. Two warrant officers (W.O.) ("A" and "B") "on hooligan prompting" (formulation of a verdict of the military tribunal) dressed in armor vests have arranged "duel". They shot with pistols PM (9mm (.38RUS) Pistolet sistemy Makarova) on distance of 18-22 meters. W.O. "B" missed. W.O. "A" hit "B's" right side of breast. The bullet has not punched the armor plate. The result of hit - 4 ribs broken. The right pulmonary tissue was crushed and deleted. W.O. "B" died for three days after "duel". Kinetic energy of bullet = 298 J.

Yesterday I saw in CSI:Miami robbery of the cash transport car (I don't know how exactly it will be in English). Car was stopped by Browning M2 Lightweight machinegun, suspected shot 80-90 rounds, left 10-20 bullet holes. My questions: 1. Why Alex said that it was 30 caliber machinegun (M2 Lightweight is 50 caliber machinegun)? 2. Why 223 Remington (5.56x45mm) ejected cartridges lied on ground?

The survey was based on the Top 10 ratings of countries around the world. CSI:M was in more Top 10's than any of the rest. When I watched the shows (don't any more - no time I'm afraid!!!) I did think Miami was better than the other two.

Your CSI:Miami is in Top 10 by the assistance of Emily Procter...
Unfortunately CSI:Miami is not popular in our country, Ukrainian telespectator prefers gangster films and serials ("Brigada", "Banditskiy Peterburg" (Gangster Peterburg), "KROT", "Boomer", "Boomer 2" etc.) I would shoot down personally everyone, who authorizes for translation of these films and serials.
We have many films and serials like CSI - "Menty" (6 episodes) (Cops), "Uboinaya Sila" (6 episodes) (Deadly Force), "Kamenskaya" (3 episodes), "Mentovskie Voyny" (Cops' Wars), "Petrovka 38", "Maroseika 12", "SPETSNAZ" (2 episodes) (Special Forces).
