I spent part of my recent holiday reading Lance Armstrong's autobiography and its the first time I've heard a true story about cancer and it almost made me angry at the soaps that don't do it properly.
For example Diane of Emmerdale's bowel cancer, the after pain of her chemotherapy treatments were barely shown, she was seen looking tired but spent most of the time out of the way.
Also as soon as they get the all clear they think thats it, it can keep coming back all the way through life and people who do have cancer still have painfull memories and worrying about it.
The book actually told a story about a women who had had the all clear for years but while she was having chemotherapy had very bad sickness. One day she saw her oncologist in a shopping centre and it made her throw up again.

That's very true, Alex. My mum's dad died of bowel cancer before I was born but there are a couple of photos of him in hospital and he looked dreadful. And in January this year, my next door neighbour died of it after a year. Also I noticed in Emmerdale, there was no mention of it being hereditary. Diane should have been worrying about Bernice getting it. Soaps, in my opinion, are wrong to do these issues because attention is brought only for a short time then it's all forgotten about.

Yeah coz in Neighbours where were Steph Hoyland's sisters Michelle and Felicity, brother Jack, Father Joe, Grandma Valda, and Mother-in-law Vicar Rosie?
In real life those people would have turned up to support her but they weren't there.

Probably cut it out like they did with my mum's mole on her leg then she'll be fully recovered and, like my mum, forget she ever had it!

Instead of instant cures or someone pretty healthy still in body despite pale make up. They did well with Alice and Ursual helped make it convincing. She's been robbed of awards.

Relevant to the title but not to the other posts - my brother has just started radio-therapy for prostate cancer. He's been trying to be positive but now it's real. We only met up about 7 years ago so it's becoming even more difficult. I'm very emotional writing this.
