I dont think killing Martha off was that bad, she was replaced by Hilda who (from what ive seen of Martha) was much better!

Yeah. Ena and Minnie were still the same. Martha didn't really add much to the trio.

Yes I do Rob. My mother in laws name is Martha too, but their personalities are poles apart I can remember Len Faircloughs interview on tv years and years ago when he said he deliberatly paused when he said Martha was dead in the hope she would have gotten a last minute reprieve from the producers as at the time Corrie was live. Sadly it wasn`t to be and poor Martha was killed off.

I have read that everyone was up in arms about the sacking of Lynn Carol..peter Adamson refused to say 'She's dead' till the last take...none of them had the courage of their convictions and actually supported Lynn and resigned though did they??
they knew which side their bread was buttered.......

she was an excellent actress for her time she wouldn't unfortunately suit today though Just like Bet was great but when she came back she seemed nowhere as good It was just the timwe that suited that type of acting

Those axed at the time were Martha Longhurst,Frank Barlow,Florrie Linley,Harry Hewitt,Concepta Hewitt...also Lucille Hewitt was to be axed too but Granda boss Cecil Bernstein stepped in and said the street needed a teenager so she was saved.
'A' teenager..makes you laff..there are more teenagers now than soft mick
