I am just so sick and tired of the writers making a mockery of both these characters. Roy and Hayley are the sweetest characters ever to be in Corrie and it makes my blood boil when the other characters poke fun at them constantly. Especially the bigoted characters like Les and Janice Battersby (and Cilla Battersby Brown) who poke fun at them constantly knowing they won`t fight back. Its bullying plain and simple. And like all bullies, the likes of Janice and Les are basically cowards. I know its only a soap, but I would love to see Roy and Hayley come up as winners for a change instead of being walked over all the time or made to be the butt of jokes. So what if Roy and Hayley don`t get bladdered in the Rovers every night, and prefer to stay at home. They don`t hurt anybody and are always there with a kind word and a cup of tea when one of their neighbours need help and/or comfort. I`m glad that Becky has redeemed herself and has shown Roy and Hayley the respect and kindness that they really and truly deserve. Thanks for letting my spleen be well and truly vented

Doesn't help Harold now has a secret son. Yawn! They ruined the characters by adding Tracy to the equation and have struggled with them since.

I agree about that Tracey business..it certianly left a sour tatste in a lot of peoples mouths.......
unfortunatley there are people like Les,Janice and Cilla who do bully people because they are ignorant and uneducated...and for every bully there is someone to be bullied
i don't like the idea of Hayleys long lost son turning up..there is too much of that in soaps

I agree Corriegirl I hope they come out on top one day.
I will reserve judgement on the son turning up until I see what happens - however at least it is different from usual son/daugher turning up storyline.

Remember a few years ago it was rumoured Reet would have a gay son turn up? Barbara reportedly put her foot down. It's so passé and time for new ideas. If they can't think of any, axe half the cast and eps.

Id forgotten about that. At least it would have made the rumour that she couldnt have kids due to an abortion untrue.

The abortion was never in the programme though, Jezziekins. Just that bollocks Street Talk tape.

Yeah but wasnt it released by Granada, same as the Corrie war books which said Arnold raped Elsie.

It's like the DW books and CDs. Not considered 'canon' so doesn't count. Daran may not have written it but he was part of it so as he's so unoriginal it was probably his idea. It's a lazy way of explaining infertility when there are umpteen reasons like what happened to me.

Well because the Corrie at War books and talking cassettes dealt with things that happened before Corrie started it was all made up stuff anyway. Arnold and Elsie had quite a good relationship on screen in the 1960s episodes, they bickered but there was still a fondness there. had he raped her she would have hated him.
I agree about Reet's abortion too - lack of imagination.

I've always said that to you. But it's true. She would have been hostile and bitter towards Arnold in the 60s eps because you never forget any sort of physical or mental abuse. Daran Little is a twat. It's fan fiction really but authorised. Like when I had Harry Bates rape Reet in my story. More than likely never happened but as he had a violent and jealous history (unlike Arnold) the chances are more likely. I never liked that abortion before I couldn't have children of my own because when the tape came out in 1995 I could. A year later I couldn't. So these things do happen naturally which made me hate that lame excuse even more. I'm lucky I know the reason but in Reet's time they didn't. It was just one of those things and there was nothing they could do about it. Patsy

Thankfully we don`t hear anything of DL anymore. I`d hate to think of the stupid storylines he`d think up for Hayley. Maybe it was him who suggested the 'Hayleys son' storyline to the writers

Nothing would surprise me. Maybe they came up with it when Kieran was producer and now he's exec producer pulling Steve Frost's strings he's going ahead with it.

Sad but true, but I think this just adds to the realism. However, if you think about it, pretty much everyone else is very fond of Roy and Hayley...except for Sally at the moment, and that's just her being her usual shrewish, nasty self about the job situation, and nothing personal about Hayley.

It is, I agree. I wouldn't say uneducated though. Just cowardly gits who have a superiority complex like at school.

Spot on Pats. I`m so disappointed in Sally not sticking up for Hayley. I thought she would`ve jumped at the chance to have a go at Janice. But lately they seem to be quite pally. Another character assasination by the writers methinks.

The bullies at my comp were actually very nice girls once you got on side. LOL! One of them even became a volunteer in an elderly day care centre after we left school which shocked me. Course it's much worse than it was in our day now you can't even belt the brats.
Sally was always a wimp so siding with Janice doesn't surprise me.

Do you think so Pats? I always figured Sally as a woman who never took any guff from anyone. Her first scenes on Corrie was of her giving Kevin a bollocking when he drove through a puddle and splashed her. Its Sals simpering towards Carla that bugged me....and the fact that she didn`t stick up for Hayley when Hayley would`ve stuck up for her had the shoe been on the other foot.

I dont agree that Sally is a wimp either. She always sticks up for herself and her kids. e.g. when Natalie and Kevin had an affair Sally gave Natalie a right slap.
The trouble with Sally is she has ideas above herself and sucks up to people like her boss's first Danny, then Paul and now Carla.

She was feisty originally but over the years she went wet and wimpy. Kev's always been that way.
