From ITV:
GOING LIVE – THE BILL PLANS ITS SECOND LIVE EPISODE
28 Jul 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To commemorate ITV’s 50th Anniversary, The Bill has announced plans for a gripping live episode to be screened this Autumn on ITV1.
Alison Davis, series producer of the award winning ITV1 drama said: “Since the success of our first live episode nearly two years ago, the audience have been very keen for a re-run. The unpredictable experience of live television seemed to be the perfect tribute to the channel as it celebrates 50 extraordinary years of broadcasting.”
Corinne Hollingworth, Head of Drama for ITV said: “We are really thrilled about the prospect of another live episode of The Bill. It's one of our most popular shows and the added energy and excitement that a live episode brings to the screen, will provide a real treat for our viewers.”
Attracting over 11 million viewers, the audience were amazed by the remarkable achievement of The Bill’s first attempt at an hour long live special in 2003 and this year’s event promises to be even more ambitious. The episode will be based at Sun Hill police station and the regular cast will be involved in a highly dramatic siege storyline, also marking the beginning of the downfall of infamous baddie PC Gabriel Kent (Todd Carty). The stakes are raised for actors and production staff alike with the inclusion of increased stunts and action.

Me neither. I went off it after Gary Best left because I was so bored by then. But I will watch tonight when the REAL Gabriel turns up and tomorrow.

Well that was boring. Camera work dodgy at times. Mics in shot twice. The car stunt just to have one. Didn't start getting anywhere near exciting until near the end. No wonder I've stopped watching.

Don't blame you. Wish I had.
But it makes you wonder why
1) It wasn't Corrie 2) Emmerdale have never done one
I suppose they're already killing their golden geese with so many eps a live one will be out the question. But have you noticed it's other programmes that have to do things and not Corrie? Granada told YTV to do the storm and they were none too happy. Why not do it on Corrie? Corrie should do another live ep. The last Bill one was excellent. But since then it too has gone down the pan.

Patsy Well I switched over as I dont follow the plots on The Bill although I do know who a lot of the characters are as ive dipped in and out over the years. Yes I did wonder why Corrie havent done another - maybe for their 45th in December?

I doubt it somehow. Maybe they won't all the while KF's there because they'd have to include her and she'd really show how crap she is.
I'm hoping now Paul Marquess has gone The Bill will improve and return to crime stories instead of personal lives.

I heard they didnt include Amanda Barrie in the live episode of Corrie because of that. Yes its another soap now really.

Which is a shame. It was better before. Now it's gone OTT and repetitive.

i read Amanda barrie asked if she could miss the live episode because she said she was so clumsy she would knock the set over..!!..lol
I missed the Bill..were there any major cock up's..??
doing a live episode is treated as if its superhuman..TV was all live in the 60's..and gawd knows how theatre performers feel !!

A review of sorts from The Stage:
Ratings Watch for week ending September 25
Liz Thomas
The Bill went live for only the second time in its history on Wednesday and it all went rather well. With a plot that wouldn’t have gone amiss in a trashy American daytime soap - think Days of Our Lives or Sunset Beach - more than 7 million tuned in to see Todd Carty’s PC Gabriel Kent meet his long-lost adopted brother, who he has been impersonating.
All this high drama brought an extra 800,000 viewers to the show’s usual figures - but let’s not forget that this is Sunhill and we’re only ever a moment away from a “Hello mum” moment. Hats off to the soundman caught on camera like a rabbit in headlights and his comedy double take as he realised he was live on national television.
The police drama firmly saw off competition from BBC1 where Animal Crime Scene attracted an audience of 2.4 million.
Saturday’s episode of The X Factor bagged almost 10 million viewers. Although the best bit is probably now over as all the freaks have been filtered out, the popularity of Simon Cowell’s talent search shows little sign of waning.
David Jason proved his appeal is perennial, with a confident return to screens in A Touch of Frost on Sunday. Almost 10 million watched the first show of the new series. The long-running drama trounced BBC1’s Monarch of the Glen, which pulled in 4.9 million and Waking the Dead, which attracted 5.3 million.
