According to the TV Times, The Bill is more likely than Corrie and Emmerdale to get this desperate bid for ratings. Do we really need another hospital soap?? Time ITV came up with something new. Won't make any difference anyway because of the timeslot. They're meant to be skint so can't afford to show programmes gathering dust for years but can to waste it.

I think The Bill spin-off is a more interesting proposal than Emmerdale or Coronation Street but not a particularly good idea in the bigger scheme of things. I too think there are too many medical dramas.
I voted no.

I voted no. Although some of the other Bill spin-offs were successful, MIT just didn't do that well. If it was a new type of drama then it'd be far better. Something different, rather than a hospital drama. How about a fire brigade service?
I think ITV need to accept that ratings for this timeslot aren't going to be too high, whatever they show as they've got children's TV, The Weakest Link and Richard & Judy for competition, as well as the news and a film on 5ive.

I agree about MIT. I was nearly asleep during the first one. But they recommissioned it apparently.
Maybe if they put decent programmes on instead of whipping them off because they get hardly any viewers, they might have more of a chance. But with people going home from work or eating during 5-6pm they're bound to get hardly any viewers as it is.

What time did Crossroads used to be on - was that around tea-time? (Meaning in it's heyday, before Gabriella Drake etc) ITV have their work cut out trying to bring punters back in that slot.

No idea. It varied from region to region like the days until they moved it nationally to 6.30pm. Mind you, there were more people at home during 5-6pm than there are now.

How about a fire brigade service? Doesn't that narrow down the possible storylines drastically? I mean, there are loads to do with illnesses and injurys, and crime... but how many fires can you have before it got monotonous?

We've already had London's Burning which I gave up on after Vaseline was killed. Then they turned it more towatds private lives that fires. Lately it's Steel River Blues, minus Middlesbrough accents by all accounts. Never watched that. How about ITV come up with a radical idea and stop having more soaps?

LOL! Indeed. It was (for anyone who doesn't know) because he was a womaniser. His ex-wife (or was there 2?) and current wife were all called Marion so he wouldn't forget the name.
