The last ep going out at the end of the year. It says on Teletext it was the first UK soap to be 5 times a week. WRONG! Crossroads was in 1964 and we all know what happened to that. So, Brookie, Night & Day, Carlton's Craproads and now this. What's next?

Brian Park and Paul Marquess are both pillocks. They shouldn't be allowed near anything because they wreck it.

I think that FA's best periods both ratings and storyline wise were between 1997 - 1999 and 2003 - 2004 (the latter period had me preferring FA to EE). I have mixed feelings about it ending though - but it does free up a lot of money to make other shows (one of them apparently being the "UK version of Desperate Housewives").

Oh I heard about that. Can't they think of anything original?
I think it's very unfair on TalkbackThames. At least with Brookie and Crossroads you had a year's notice.

Family Affairs has improved greatly in quality since the 2003 revamp but its not been getting high enough ratings. I suppose its better for the show to go out at a high point unlike the Carlton Crossroads and Brookie which were both crap by the end.

IS THIS REALLY TRUE HOW CAN IT BE AXED!!!!!! Ratings I suppose. Although the show is good at the moment the show isnt pulling in enough viewers. This should act as a warning to the other soaps as people are already switching off from them.

I feel very sorry about this. It was just starting to win awards as well. I wonder if the writing was on the wall after thay axed David Easter.?

A dream indeed, Jezziekins. Though more like a nightmare. Thank goodness for the DVDs of Crossroads, the ONLY Midlands TV soap. ;D

I agree Patsy about Brian Park and Paul Marquess. So please visit my website and add your name onto my two petitions about axing writers and producers. I have a separate petition entitled axe Paul Marquess so please consider signing them both. I can't do these things by myself. People moan and groan but don't sign petitions. I need all the support I can get. When you do get chance Patricia have a thorough search through my website. Are you Patricia Dempsey by the way because if you are you may have already signed some of my petitions but consider signing some more as well. That's me, Rob! ;D I have signed a few of them, yes. Paul Marquess has gone anyway (to Endemol I think it is). I like some scriptwriters so wouldn't want them axed.

There's a letter on Teletext today (page 142) complaining about him and how he ruied Brookside (axed), ruined FA (axed) and would The Bill be next?

I dont think he is to blame. It was more the fact that it was on Channel 5 and up against competition from the news and Hollyoaks.
As for Brookie well C4 didnt want it so they were just as responsible for its demise.

Yes but you can't deny Paul Marquess came up with ridiculous plots, which he has also done in The Bill. I've stopped watching that now because it's too ludicrous. That's down to him. Geoff McQueen's stipulation was NO private lives and what has Marquess done? I doubt he would have if McQueen hadn't died. Yet some people on the old Corrie board wanted him to take over as Corrie boss!

I wasn't trying to put anyone in their place, Rob, and I'm certainly not jibing at Jez either. I was just stating how he has ruined The Bill by going against what Geoff McQueen stated which is in the 20th anniversary book (Marquess said it in there).

I actually think that Paul Marquess did a really good job at improving FA. When he first took over it was in a pretty bad state, and he then brought in the Costellos, among others, who had some groundbreaking storylines include cancer and child abuse. These two storylines were much applauded, and even got FA their first two British Soap Awards!
He also introduced strong characters. It has went downhill since he left IMO.
