From the People:
8 July 2007 EXCLUSIVE: CORRIE FURY AS ASHLEY GOES AWOL Booze binge actor Steven wrecks day's filming By Alice Walker And Melanie Swan
CORRIE star Steven Arnold left bosses fuming by going AWOL from filming the day after a boozy party.
Steven, 32, who plays butcher Ashley Peacock, failed to turn up for work on Friday and a whole day's shooting had to be rescheduled.
Livid producers could not contact him to demand an explanation as his mobile was switched OFF.
There are now concerns on the ITV1 soap that he may wind up being sacked like Les Battersby actor Bruce Jones.
Bruce, 54, lost his £120,000-ayear Corrie job for slagging off colleagues during a 19-pint booze bender at a Cheshire pub earlier this year. A show insider said: "Steven was due to be filming crucial scenes on Friday and caused a real headache by not turning up.
"They were trying to call him all day but his mobile was off. That is totally unprofessional.
And it's not the first time they haven't been able to get hold of him. The scenes will now have to be filmed another day."
There was still no sign of Steven yesterday at his home in Warrington, Cheshire, and bosses fear he is spiralling out of control. A Street source admitted: "This is worrying.
He has become increasingly hard to get hold of lately. Words have already been exchanged with Steve about his sometimes unprofessional attitude to work.
"He is a brilliant actor and highly valued. We'd hate to think that things were going on in his private life that were affecting his work."
Last month Steven caused chaos at a posh dinner by squaring up to boxing legends Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn.
He drunkenly heckled the pair, hurling incoherent insults as they made after-dinner speeches from a boxing ring.
Then, in a display far removed from his mild-mannered TV character, he climbed into the ring and stood unsteadily in front of the boxers. Onlookers said he was "paralytic".
Security men bundled him out as guests at the £150-a-head Manchester bash booed.
An angry organiser of the event said: "He overstepped the mark. He probably thought it was hilarious but it was really obnoxious behaviour."
Steven has been playing Ashley, one of the main characters in the show, for 11 years. A recent storyline saw him and wife Claire's home destroyed in an arson attack.
A Coronation Street spokeswoman said of Steven's disappearance on Friday: "He did have a family party the night before and was probably in bed.
"We couldn't get hold of him but he always has trouble with his phone. He's a bit of a nightmare with them.
"We rescheduled filming and the day was re-arranged."

A main character? I think not. Fred Elliot.....now there was a main character. Now that Fred has died, Ashley hasn`t had nearly as many scenes like he used to. Don`t get me wrong, I like Ashley. But if his off screen antics are interfereing with his work, then he needs to think about what happened to Bruce Jones. I know filming can be hectic, but jeez, sleeping off a hangover and missing filming altogether is hardly professional is it. Grow up Ashley!

this was also in the NOTW, at 32 its about time he grew up, yes filming can be hectic, but his pay packet more than makes up for that, perhaps that the problem too much money to waste, but i hope he turns up fine and well.

Maybe not Pats. But he`s under contract, so regardless of how he feels then he should turn up for filming whether he`s hungover or not. Other actors just starting out in the profession would give up a body part to appear on Corrie. Add Steven to the list of actors that pi$$ me off with their off screen antics that make me do an about face on their characters.........
Fiz Janice Sean and now Ashley

Why not just leave then rather than be sacked and disgraced...at least if he left properly he would have the option to go back (thats is if they don't kill Ashley off)
I see in todays Mirror that he has been dragged up in front of the powers that be

Becauae they're all barking. Fame and cash go to their heads and they think they're indispensable.
I read that too. He'll get a slap on the wrist after promising never to do it again then he will. We've seen it all before.

It said in The Sun it cost them thousands of pounds of lost filming due to him not turning up. Maybe they will take it out of his pay.

Yet another thread hijacked....sorry about that ;D
re: Steven Arnold. In his defence, it`s only this past few months that I`ve read anything negative about him in the papers. I hope that being hauled over the coals will set him straight now. It would auger well for the future if Steven would befriend the likes of Sally Whittaker and Michael Le Vell and their families. Those 2 actors private lives are impeccable....as are most of the cast.
