Teletext were reporting yesterday that Five is planning a new teen soap to replace Family Affairs and go in the 6.30pm slot. Apparently they have commissioned 40 episode and if popular will order a further 200.
The show will be aimed at teens.
However firstly they said the reason for axing Family Affairs was to concentrate more on peaktime dramas. Also if they are showing it as 6.30pm its going to clash not only with Hollyoaks on C4 but Home and Away on Five life!

I heard about this as well, and admit that it came totally out of the blue. It's basically Hollyoaks on Five from the sounds of it. No soap launched after Hollyoaks has caught on (i.e. Crossroads, Night & Day and Family Affairs) so I doubt this one will. The only real way of launching a new soap these days really is to have it as a spin-off from another soap, featuring a few popular characters in new situations and places - like Holby and The Royal, both spin-offs.

I think ever since they axed Family Affairs they have regretted it. In fact I read an article by Jan Harvey ( 'Babs' Woods ) which said the same.
I for one will nor bother watching it. 6.30 is an ideal slot in which I now watch the regional news.

Well I dont really class the likes of Holby as soaps. They are more dramas really but I know what you mean eithne.
Id say Family Affairs was sucessful, unlike Crossroads and Night and Day. Family Affairs lasted over 8 years so had a good run really. It was Five who wanted rid of it, it was still as popular as ever I think (although never did that well as it was on Five).
As for this new soap, Sooty I agree, I probabaly wont watch unless it looks amazing. I already watch enough soaps as it is with Hollyoaks, Corrie, Home and Away and sometimes Neighbours. I watch the regional news on ITV1 at 6pm and Hollyoaks or first look Home and Away at half 6.
