So ITV have shown their last episodes of the soaps on Sunday nights for the immediate future at least. Is it the right decision to move the soaps from Sunday night? Do you think the weekends should be soap free, or would you rather the soaps be spread out and on less during the week than they will be in the new look schedule. Do you think they should have used this opportunity to reduce the number of episodes of Emmerdale to 5 and Corrie to 4? Or are you happy with the amount of episodes and cant get enough of the ITV soaps? Will it bother you that Emmerdale will be clashing with Eastenders on a Tuesday evening? Do you think a 1 hour of Emmerdale each week is far too much. How do you feel about another double episode of Corrie each week on Fridays, will it be easier to keep up with over 3 nights? Get voting and debating guys!

Yes, yes, and yes! Reduce them. If Michael Grade really listens he'll do that, not move it to Friday for Corrie and keep having an hour of boring Emmerdale.

The more episodes there are in an episode, the less likely there will be of great performances from the actors, and the writing will be lacklustre too as the plots would be watered down or so ludicrous that they will have people turning away in droves. Case in point = Emmerdale. What the soaps need is reduced episodes so people can look forward to their favourite soaps again.....especially if someone goes on holiday and tapes a soap then they have to go through hours of their soap to catch up on and that can get boring quick. Also, there must be a lot of tension on the sets with everyone overworked and trying to learn their lines. Yes reducing the days is a start, but to make it better for everyone then the producers should drop the amount too.

Also what has to stop is the 'Us and them' mentality. Sure they`re proud of the soap they write for and are feriecely loyal....and that`s how it should be. What I hate about it is - (again case in point Emmerdale) is that they are so confident that their soap is better than the BBC soap they they are putting Emmerdale up against EastEnders. What they should have done is put it to a vote (one postcard per address.. phone votes shouldn`t count) and ask the fans what they would like rather than deciding amongst themselves and saying....this is what we`re gonna do take it or leave it mentality. Arrrgh the arogance astounds me aye. The fans are the most important thing - even more than the actors. The fans are the ones that brings the numbers in, buy the magazines and merchandise hense they`re the ones that bring in the revenue and they SHOULD have a say at what goes on with their favourite soap(s). Sorry, didn`t mean to make this post long winded. I feel better now ;D

Definitely reduce them.
Weekends should be a soap free zone. I dread to think what will go on in their place though.

I'm used to Corrie on a Sunday night now so I'll miss it, although I'm usually not that bothered if I see it - but its just nice to have it there. I'm not too bothered about double Corrie on a Friday though, as the quality is still medium even at 5 episodes a week. Yes, 4 episodes would be better - but ITV are a business and Corrie at 8.30 on a Friday night is going to get a lot more people tuning in than would for anything else.
Getting Emmerdale down to five, or even four, would be more important for me just because it is so bad at the moment and really struggles with so many episodes. The quality of that is beyond poor. The hour of Emmerdale won't last on Tuesday nights though, as Eastenders is so good at the moment that it'll win hands down. The only way Emmerdale will win is if they have some sensational stories (shootings, fires, explosions!) during the Tuesday night episodes. Either the hour will be moved to some other night - or the hour will be split in two ala Corrie.
I wouldn't be too surprised if by the end of the year Emmerdale has dropped an episode. It takes time for them to reach the end of the production contracts, but change might be forthcoming I predict.

I will miss Corrie on Sunday nights too as its been a fixture there since 1996. Emmerdale at 6 a week was bad enough but showing a 1 hour every week to continue to fit in 6 episodes really is taking the pee!

Juts cut Emmerdale out full stop! Lol!! I like having Corrie on a Sunday night, but if its being cut I don't see the need to have a double on FRiday. Just take it back doen to four. But I really think that Emmerdale on SIX nights a week is ridiculous!

"One of Beedles' first projects will be an Emmerdale related spin-off, which she hopes to produce during 2008."
That was c&p'd from the article about Beedle's and Frost's departures from Emmerdale and Corrie. So while the amount of Emmerdale we've got at the moment seems bad, it could soon be much much worse.

Oh dear. She messed up Emmerdale. I wouldn't trust her in charge of a pile of paper!
Funny you mentioning production contracts. I had texts from Lane when I was away saying the same thing. Hopefully Grade will reduce them both.

I am actually missing the Sunday episode of Corrie and so are a lot of people. Also I dont like the fact we now have 2 double episodes with "cliffhangers" per week.
They should axe both the Monday and Friday 8.30pm eps and have Corrie Sun, Mon, Wed, Fri at 7.30pm.

Nah. They should just axe the 8.30 ones and leave it Mon, Wed, Fri.
And if they a soap-free weekend, what the hell are they doing with an omnibus? They never last so what's the point?

Maybe the writers/producers have a drink filled weekend to think up future storylines. And lately with some episodes you can almost see how many drinks the writers must have had to think up some ludicrous storylines.
Writer 1 :- *gulp, slurp, belch* Oh then guys, we need a new family in the street Writer 2:- *gulp slurp belch* I can`t think of any, lets have another drink Writer 3:- Lesh jutht , put it on Granadas bill and then bugger off for a few daysh. Writer 4:- I need a pee Writer 5. That`s what we`ll call the new family - the Mortons as in Mortons peas hahaha Writer 6. Oh hahaha I like that - you ought to be a writer one day Writer 8. Oh shut up Daran - I thought they sacked you

Patsy Id settle for Sun, Mon, Wed and Fri. The Sunday episode was nice viewing before the start of another working week. Its the double episodes which are rubbish because they build to a cliffhanger and they cant do that every week never mind trying to do it twice a week now.

PMSL CG! I can just imagine that. We're beginnng to understand their mentality rather too easily. Scary or what? But the thought of DL going back..... Better getting a cliffhanger with less eps, Jezziekins. Better too with no spoilers then there will actually be a point of the cliffhangers to get people watching the next ep. No reason when they know already what happens. ITV need a drastic rethink with the soaps but I can't see any of it happening. Patsy
