From Digital SpyTake the High Road will return to screens from tomorrow on Life One. It has bought up 100 episodes of the 1980s and 90s soap which it will run first on Thursdays at 3pm and 7pm then repeat at the same times through the week. The channel said it had taken shows starting at episode 1,000 and would buy more if they were popular. "Having launched Life One on July 23, 2007 we are still building our viewer base," said channel spokeswoman Julie Bertram. "By adding highly regarded classics, such as Take the High Road, to our spring slate of programmes we will attract the programme's loyal fan base, further increasing our daytime and early evening viewership." We don't get this channel on Freeview ( which IMO is the very worst choice of ways to get digital tv, it's a good job it's free otherwise I wouldn't give it house room. !! ) I used to love High Rd, and would love to see it again.

We've got zillions of channels but they're mostly +1 and very similar. How many shopping, religious, travel etc does anyone need? I haven't the foggiest what most of the channels are on Sky now or what they show.
I used to see this occasionally but never got it to it. Is it still going?

I could never get into this either by my mum watched it I think. It became regional in the end and was only shown in a few regions by the end. HTV gave up on it in the Mid 1990s but STV had it until 2003.

Wonder why they kept it going when it was dropped elsewhere? Also wonder what would've happened had ITV not gobbled itself up.

Can you explain sooty? I'm not being argumentative - just curious.
We've got Digital via Freeview, and we love it - we didn't particularly want loads of extra channels, and certainly weren't prepared to go the Sky or Satellite route just to become 'digital'.
It's free, we get fantastic reception (miles better than terrestrial), and we get a lot of reruns of old stuff we want to see. The Freeview box we have was not the cheapest, but reputedly one of the best, and has never let us down in 2 years.
What don't you like about Freeview?

Freeview is misleading. To be free the box should be. Sorry. Being pedantic. We upgraded from Sky analogue to digital in Oct 98 and apart from the dish not being aligned properly at the start have had no probs. Yet On/ITV digital wouldn't work properly around here, even with a new aerial. Many people were refunded and went to Sky instead.

I think High Rd came to the end of it's shelf life....It was replaced by River City .
BC, we have a tv with Freeview built in. ( We also have a Freeview box for our little telly )
The picture is diabolical sometimes, a couple of nights ago it was impossible to watch it broke up so much ( we have an updated aerial BTW )
Having come from where we had SKY we are now very limited in the channels we receive. ( Even when we had Freesat, there was more choice. )
Because of the picture breaking up, we quite often swap to analogue, the picture may not be as good, but at least we can see it. This is okay, but analogue only gets the terrestrial channels. My daughter has Virgin and says it's brilliant.

I have Virgin media too and I cant complain about it - its got a great picture compaired to our analogue signal, and apart from not having Sky One its perfect. You can also watch loads of programmes from the last week again free of charge with the on demand service.

At the end of the day, it's bviously down to personal experience, location etc. then I guess.
We had pretty average analogue reception, and no Channel 5 at all. We knew we were going to have to bite the bullet and go digital eventually, so had a high-gain digital mast fitted, which immediately tranformed analogue picture to 'excellent', then got our Freeview box.
And as I said, the picture is unbelievable - even better than the 'excellent' analogue, and we have only very occasional break-up of picture (maybe once a week, and only for a couple of seconds at a time).
Admittedly I decided to do as good a job as possible, so doubled up on top-quality scart and RF leads, and replaced all the old cable with proper screened digital cable.
Wasn't hugely expensive (apart from the new mast, which we had needed anyway), and we're very happy with the results.

It is. Cable hasn't reached here yet. It was supposed to many years ago. They have it in Hythe and I'm just about a mile outside. Stupid really.
