Blimey O Riley ..According to todays paper Chri Eccleston is quitting as The Doctor after only one series...they are lining up that chap who has been playing Casanova..I think thats a mistake..his career is on an upward curve, and he won't stay long..they should get an older actor who has done lots of good work in the past and who would be likely to stay for awhile....And if Richard E Grant gets the role,I shall stop watching..i don't know what it is..but I can't bear him

I know. I posted about it on the New Series thread because I wasn't sure whether to start a new one or not. The Mail though says whoever takes over will be the 9th actor to play the part. LOL!

I must admit..its a bit much..you would have thought the producers would have got him to sign a contract for one series..with the option of them doing anoher series if it was succesful

It's ridiculous. After all, he's the one who emailed RTD asking to be considered so should at least give it a fair crack.

Anyone see this in today's Mirror:
DR WHO-HA Apr 2 2005
Eccleston row forces fans' website to shut By Cameron Robertson A DR Who fans' website has been shut after a string of abusive emails on star Christopher Eccleston's exit.
Outpost Gallifrey was temporarily closed after fans accusing Eccleston of using the show to boost his profile clashed bitterly with his supporters.
Editor Shaun Lyon said followers had become "incredibly heated".
Ninth doctor Eccleston, 41, said he will not be returning to BBC's £10million show when the first 13-part series ends, claiming he did not want to be typecast.
Lyon added: "Tempers have become incredibly heated. What has transpired in the past two days has been an embarrassment to us all, so we've decided to shut down the forum for a short time.
"Tempers need to cool, some of our users need to regain objectivity and balance, and our staff desperately need a break."
Dr Who's return after 16 years last Saturday attracted 10.5million viewers, two million more than ITV1 rivals Ant and Dec.
Bosses are talking to BBC3's Casanova star David Tennant about taking over.
--------------------------------------------
Heated bunch, aren't we? LOL! Not surprised really though. Wait all these years for the Beeb to get their fingers out and then CE does this. I see ITV have a plugging assualt for Ant & Dec with all that Tony Blair stuff in the papers today.

Quitting after one series is in ectremely poor taste, and judgement.

Yes. The new range of books too. Mind you, I stopped buying them years ago so wouldn't have bought them anyway. All those manuscripts and publishing dates and now they'll have to put them in the Missing Adventures bracket.
Speaking of books, anyone read the new 4th Doctor and Leela by Chris Boucher? If it's any good I'll buy it but his last one was a bit naff.

From Wicked Whispers in today's Daily Mail:
Former Doctor Who Colin Baker wants Christopher Eccleston to stop going on about his Mancunian roots and comparing them with his 'posh' predecessors. Says Baker: 'Paul McGann in a Liverpudlian, Sylvester McCoy is Scottish and I'm another Manchunian - and none of us would have been invited to play the Doctor as a northerner. But television has changed in 20 years. So be grateful, Christopher, that you're allowed to be a northerner, and shut up, please.' So something of a split in the Northern Alliance, then?
---------------------------------
He doesn't mentions Tom was from Liverpool too. Also Sylvester did his as Scottish and Paul McGann, crap though the TV movie was, did have a tinge of an accent.

More from Wicked Whispers today:
There's more to Christopher Eccleston's departure than meets the eye. Says my on-set souce: 'Chris became so demanding, asking for so much control over the production that they all became heartily sick of him.' It ended up in a stand-off from which there was no return. Adds a BBC spokesman: 'He was very hard-working and showed a lot of passion and commitment to the project.'

LOL! Maybe he said he'd never work for them again and they want to make millions of overseas sales so did that.

Eccleston's used the series for his own means, he's done, got what he's wanted, nevermind who he's letting down.

True. After all, HE asked for the job so should have shown more loyalty. I still say if he wouldn't commit to a second series, knowing there was a chance of one, he shouldn't have done it. Paul McGann was willing to for 5 years.
