I have to say that I thought it was average, nothing special and all rather confusing really. My attention wasn't really grabbed by the storyline or the characters, and there was rather a confusing change of character for Adam which means he probably won't be back next year. It is a pity that he was changed so much (why? ) as he could have been a good character. The whole storyline was a mess - really, really confusing. I hope that next weeks is better. Who is it written by, as the whole debate over episodes not written by RTD rages on?

I was falling asleep! Even The Web Planet at 2 1/2 hours or Ghost Light at 75 mins aren't as crap and they're the worst. Well up untiil RTD got his paws on it. Music too overpowering again. Adam was pointless. He was originally a RTD creation but Rob Shearman asked to borrow him for the Dalek one and Rob in DWM (think it was) said the character is written differently in both. The companions have done their fair share of making things worse and trying to change history before but they've never been uncermoniously dumped. Look at Barbara with the Aztecs. Despite the Doctors warnings, she took no notice and was determined to stop sacrifices and save them. Okay, so the Doctor at that time couldn't control the Tardis so couldn't return her and Ian back home but he still never dumped her for it. Part of the show is Doctor and companion(s) being split up but Rose and the Doctor seem joined at the hip. It all went too fast. One minute they're there under the whatever the hell it was (touches of giant maggot with the jaw methinks but my dad said it reminded him of Alien) and they next they were in futuristic stocks. I agree the storyline was a mess. Nothing made sense. The best part was the end.
Next week's is written by Paul Cornell so I'm keeping my options open. I've seen him at conventions where he's done the Friday night quiz and he's as boring as hell!

I enjoyed it, even though it wasn't a patch on last weeks. ( You couldn't top an episode with a Dalek anyway in my opinion )
I didn't like the way they developed Adam, doubt he'll be back.
Seen a trailer of next weeks, it looks better.

Yes but next week Rose changes history so by yesterday's, the Doctor should dump her.

Have you also noticed there's been bugger all adventures on other planets? It's all been earth-based and fairly close to now either way (apart from the Dickens one). Any future has been on a space station above earth. Not very imaginitive, is it? So much for time and space travel.
Oh they do. It's ridiculous but RTD is obsessed with Rose's family. He seems to be trying to emulate that Ace storyline that ran through various stories up until Curse of Fenric. Only that was better.

In his 40s I think so probably Troughton/Pertwee/Baker which would explain why so many idea have been pinched from then.

I agree with the main sentiment, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, it was very average. I managed to stick with it but was bored, the only thing that did grab me was at the end when Adam's mother clicked her fingers, but that's all. I think it's instantly forgettable and not a patch on some of the others. It's true about the alien ones only being on spacestations, i really do hope this changes, and control the Earth episodes a little so they're not so frequent.

Me too, Nick. I know my earliest memory was when I was 4, sitting on the floor in front of the TV when Pertwee regenerated and crying my eyes out. But when I saw The Three Doctors on UK Gold I remembered bits so could have watched it originally. Went off it during Davison and only watched Remembrance of the Daleks in 88 because of all that publicity but did enjoy it.
Well, RTD does seem to be going by the Pertwee "Yeti on your loo in Tooting Bec being more frightening" thing. Personally I want to see different planets and lots of time travel. It's all too monotonous all this earth stuff and obsession with Rose's family.

I agree Patsy...more Quarries in Wales are needed

Or Dorset. I'm sure the Beeb had shares in Dorset quarries with the amount of shows they filmed there.
