From the People:
BILLIE GETS MORE THAN NEW WHO Jul 3 2005
By James Desborough DOCTOR Who star Billie Piper has landed a bigger deal than the new Time Lord, The People can reveal.
Billie, 23, will bank a cool £210,000 for the second series and a Christmas special.
David Tennant, who will replace Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, will be paid £166,000 for the same 13 episodes.
But the 33-year-old Scot has signed a £500,000 contract committing him to THREE series.
Billie, who separated from DJ husband Chris Evans last year, was offered the deal after at first quitting as assistant Rose Tyler in May.
An insider said: "It's great that Billie is staying. Her deal is what she deserves as she's a favourite with fans."
The new series starts next February.

I'm glad she is stopping. She has done really well in her career since splitting up from the 'Ginger Whinger'

Yes. Talk about the odd couple. But with all these job losses to save money, her salary's a bit high.

New Doctor Who's fears over role David Tennant, who takes the role of Doctor Who in the autumn, has said he hopes he will live up to the legacy of former Time Lord Christopher Eccleston. "Chris was so good in it," the actor told Doctor Who magazine in his first interview since getting the role.
"It left me thinking 'there's an awful lot to live up to here'. I know everyone loved Chris, and so did I, but hopefully I won't disappoint people."
Filming starts on the new 13-part BBC One series in Cardiff this summer.
Lifelong fan
In his first interview since winning the iconic TV role, Tennant, a lifelong fan of the series, said becoming the Doctor was "a bit surreal".
"But you have to get beyond that quite quickly. The moment of that slight 'out-of-body experience' ends when you realise you have to knuckle down and do it."
The actor also spoke of his delight at teaming up with co-star Billie Piper, who plays the Doctor's assistant, Rose.
"She's just great. Fantastic. Just absolutely perfect. Spunky and quick and sexy, just the ideal companion really. So I'm really glad she is doing the whole series."
The series reunites Tennant with writer and executive producer Russell T Davies, who also wrote Casanova in which Tennant starred earlier this year.
But Tennant admitted to being unnerved by a visit to the Doctor Who website Outpost Gallifrey.
"The first comment I read was very nice, and the next comment was terribly flattering, and then the next one said something like 'I can't bear the sight of him!'"
"The one after that said 'That's it! The dream is finished! Somebody who looks like a weasel could never play the Doctor!'"
"I just hope people like it. I hope they stick with it and give it a chance."

I'm speechless the Sun got something right! Lis is coming back for a guest appearance!!!! Pity RTD hates Gallifrey and the Time Lords so much he destroyed it all meaning there's no chance of Leela popping up in an ep.
I read today the Christmas one takes place on, guess where? Yep - Earth again! More alien invaders. Yawn!

'Daunted' Dr Who begins filming
New Doctor Who star David Tennant said it was "pretty daunting" to play the sci-fi character, as filming of new episodes began in Cardiff. Ex-Casanova star Tennant, 34, said it was an intimidating role because "the series is so huge".
"I'm aware of all that but I try to keep it in my back pocket and just get on with the job," he added.
A 13-part series of the BBC TV show will follow a Christmas special, with scenes shot in London on Friday.
Ratings success
Tennant, a long-term Doctor Who fan, also said he was excited about beginning work on the show.
"It's great - you get to play a Time Lord and have a Tardis. You can't knock that," he said.
Revived after a 16-year absence, Doctor Who proved to be a ratings success on its return in March.
Tennant replaced Christopher Eccleston in the lead role, appearing briefly at the end of the last series in June.
Last week the Doctor's "striking" new outfit was revealed, consisting of a striped suit, trenchcoat and trainers.
Billie Piper returns as companion Rose, with a cameo appearance by Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Anthony Head.
The 60-minute Christmas special tells of the earth being under threat from alien Sycorax and features actress Penelope Wilton.
The Cybermen will return in the new series, and the Doctor and Rose will meet Queen Victoria and an evil race of Cat Women.
One episode will be written by comedian Stephen Fry while The League of Gentleman star Mark Gattis will once again contribute to the writing.

From the Mirror:
6 August 2005 DOCTOR'S FANS GET TOO FLASH By Cameron Robertson
DOCTOR Who fans are wrecking the new series by turning up on set with their own special effects.
The BBC has pleaded with "Whovians" not to take pictures as the flashes and even the sound can ruin recording.
TV bosses do not announce where the hit series will be filmed - but hordes of devoted fans have descended on Cardiff to watch David Tennant and Billie Piper in action.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "Filming last week was disrupted by cameras with flash and those that made a beep every time they took a picture.
"Both are enough to stop a take and it takes a long time for the entire cast and crew to reset for another go.
"The most important request is please don't take photographs during an actual take."
The one-off Christmas special sees Earth threatened by alien Sycorax.
Zoe Wanamaker is to return in the new series - but it isn't known if she'll play Cassandra.

From the Mirror:
17 August 2005 DR WHO'S GAY PAL JACK WILL BE BACK By Cameron Robertson
DOCTOR Who's hunky bisexual companion Captain Jack Harkness will return.
The character, played by John Barrowman, was killed then revived and left abandoned on a space station in the final episode of the last series starring Christopher Eccleston.
Executive producer Russell T Davies confirmed: "Jack lovers will have to be patient. Come 2007 and series three, he'll be strutting back on our screens.
"It's nice to be able to say that to John because he's so committed to the programme. He'll get on with new Doctor David Tennant brilliantly."
Davies said he had to get rid of Jack for the next series because the gung-ho character would interfere with Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, accepting the new time-traveller.
He said: "You want to go back to basics with Rose and a brand new Doctor."
And in an interview with Doctor Who magazine Davies said he had no qualms about making Jack - who starred in five episodes of the revamped show - the Timelord's first openly gay companion.
He said: "It wasn't me sort of dying to get a bisexual character on screen. Yes, I'm a gay writer, but I was thinking: Jack's from the 51st century so of course he's going to go out with men and women. To get hung up on it is almost too sad for words, frankly."
More alien planets will feature in the second series compared to the Earth-based first series, said Davies, who also vowed never to kill off Billie's character Rose Tyler.
And 1970s Doctor Who companion Sarah Jane Smith - to third and fourth doctors Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker - reappears in forthcoming episode School Reunion.
Actress Elizabeth Sladen, 57, said: "My past life is whizzing before my eyes. I was amazed at what was being offered, as it was so much more than I could have envisaged.
"David is going to get sackfuls of mail - he's incredibly charming and as an actor he can turn on a pin. He will give us a truly iconic Doctor."

I'm really glad Captain Jack will return. Pity he can't be a more permaent member (Instead of Rose's mum and boyfriend ) I am also reading ( in various papers ) that there is a question of Chris Evans being in it.

Yes I read that too. Playing Satan. LOL! I agree about Captian Jack as opposed to Jackie and Mickey. Though it is good news about venturing to other planets for a change. Pity Jackie and Mickey can't be dumped on one and the Tardis goes wrong again meaning the Doctor can't control it like at the start. Patsy

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Ant 'n' Dec have told the ITV bosses that they don't want to go up against DW when the next series starts & that the bosses have agreed. Wonder what they will put opposite it?

I wonder if he will still be a pain to move around.? I'm looking forward to seeing him again. LOL! I hope he's not the revamped one we saw at one of the conventions a few years ago when there was talk of a new K9 series with Tom Baker having something to do with it. Patsy

There's going to be a Captain Jack spin-off set in Cardiff. Can't remember what it's called but it's an anagram of Doctor Who and aimed at adults.
